What's the deal about ARob - game tracker watching, saw he had a great first half, then stopped getting the ball and arnaud ran it a bunch in the 3rd. What's up?
Here's my thoughts:
-That was ugly but a win nonetheless
-Arnaud seemed to shake the rust off in the second half
- David Sims was the best player on the field when he was in
-Kenard Banks NEEDS to tackle stronger
-Benton, I think, should play more
-Arob was Arob
-Money had a fantastic first game as far as I'm concerned
-Shwartz looked good at the end
-Jesse Smith tackled very well, should have a great season
-Marques Hamilton had a very good game. One drop kept it from an amazing evening.
-Our D-line looked awesome in passing situations, especially late which says something for our conditioning
-Dodged a bullet with Osemele and it seems Sed
-Darks is obviously still hampered by the injury
-Josh Lenz caught every ball, which is nice to see
Overall, we looked like a young team with new coaches. We have GOT to tackle better. If we tackle just a little better on a few plays this was never close. That will be the key against Iowa. I believe our offense will find a rythme and get into the flow, it will be a matter of our defense being able to force Iowa to pass the football and then our ability to defend that. I don't feel any different now about the Iowa game than I did at 6:59 tonight. I still think we win. The offensive struggle, I believe, can be chalked up to rust/new system/maybe some hesitation. I will be there next weekend and I couldnn't be more excited. GO STATE

Tackling looked awful. Often times the guys looked out of the correct position, and caught by surprise at how fast #2 was streaking past him. There were flashes of brilliance, and I liked how the team looked like they were having fun again. Definitely can sense the "walking on eggshells" mentality under Chizik, and the change to a fun and enthusiastic approach under PR.
Offense looked shaky, but brought it together. Darius Reynolds was very impressive, Hamilton rectified an easy TD drop by grabbing for two more. Tiller made some freshman mistakes, but he's going to be (hopefully!) great in the future. Not many QBs and throw on the run like him, and for as deep as he did.
Future always looks bright to me, but I am still in wait-and-see. First half of the schedule looks manageable, but gets WAY tougher after we visit Lincoln.

Offense looked shaky, but brought it together. Darius Reynolds was very impressive, Hamilton rectified an easy TD drop by grabbing for two more. Tiller made some freshman mistakes, but he's going to be (hopefully!) great in the future. Not many QBs and throw on the run like him, and for as deep as he did.

2 very nice sacks in the 2nd half had me impressed...another bright spot on the D side hopefully.
Tell me why? No way you can base that off of tonight. You can tell he has talent and will eventually be really solid.
this is an insane comment. he made some clutch plays. he dropped a couple, but so what. he was definitely in the top 5 productive guys tonight.
Never came out of the game until the back-ups came in. Coaches quit giving him the ball.
Are you the fcmc for football? If you thought the only bright spot was A rob you didnt watch the game.
thanks - that seems unfortunate... and we don't want Arnaud to carry that many times a game.

no doubt, and if Hamilton had been able to hold onto that pass, we'd all be talking about what a stud Money is. It's obvious he's a weapon.
DL looked terrible for the most part imo. this was a D1aa team, one with a good OL but still. Sims looked really good for the most part. banks will be great with time. Raven seemed to stand out. overall though i give the defense a C-. An average 1aa team took some huge chunks tonight.
offense will be pretty darn good so long as sed. can come back next week healthy. a little out of sinc tonight, but it was the first game and we hadn't won in the last 10 tries, so what are you gonna do?

You're exactly right. Six catches for 53 yards and a should have been TD pass is nothing. Can we kick him off yet? I mean good lord, the kid basically didn't play last year and this is his first game back and he is second on the team in receptions. I guess he should apologize for not having 15 for 220 and 5 touchdowns along with a return for a TD and 2 TD passes huh. Give the guy a break.
Exactly, he is going to be very nice weapon for us this year. Today was his first ever game as a Div. 1 WR and some people still need to tear him down.
With Hermans offense, he will get around that many carries a game. Chase Clement ran for over 800 on more than 100 attempts for Rice last season.
General observations: Special teams were very solid, especially Mahoney on FG. Made a 50 yarder and came up just short on a 57 yarder. Lenz fielded the ball cleanly and made good decisions, Sims looks great back in kickoff return and he'll definetly be option 1A back there (Leonard will be option 1).
Offense was hit or miss, when they had it going they really had it going but hit some lulls. Reynolds has alligator arms but is a hell of a threat out in space. Offense needs to run through ARob, he made good reads and hit the holes well. Good 2nd half out of Arnaud, seemed to be pressing way too much in the 1st half. Trying to put too much mustard on passes and it showed, the passes were behind receivers and really wobbly.
Defense received a D-. Run defense was poor and we were getting pushed off the line 3-4 yards every play. The pass defense is actually there but with the way we couldn't stop the run it wasn't any surprise that we were burned on play action a few times. Sims is the real deal at safety, if Kenard Banks learns that it isnt against the rules to use your arms when you tackle he'll be good. O'Connell didnt seem to do too much to me, except lay out Sims on his interception. LJ was LJ, had a couple of mental lapses but had a beautiful pass breakup. Linebackers didn't really impress, got sucked in by misdirection and were constantly getting crushed by the pulling guards on the outside runs.
Overall at least we put the hammer down at the end and didn't leave any doubt. Corners still play 8-10 yards off the ball, I can only imagine how much that will kill us come big 12 play when everyone runs a bubble screen. A win is a win, and most week 1 wins are ugly, so it'll be interesting to see how much we improve next week.
