***OFFICAL: I BOOKED MY TRIP THREAD***

This is a picture of the new 1 WTC (formerly called the "Freedom Tower"; they took the name away because they didn't want any 1 of the 6 planned buildings to be more important than another...) taken in June. They've probably gone another 30 stories since and have about 20 more to go before the radio tower is put on top (another 270-feet or so...). 4 WTC is also well on the way to becoming the 3rd, IIRC, tallest building in NYC. I believe that when the project is complete it will host 5 of the 6 tallest skyscrapers in Manhattan.

The fountains that form the WTC Memorial are, in a word, astonishing.

Not grumpy...just sick of the 'New York...big city" attitude already.Been dealing with them for a week trying to find a decent spot for a big tailgate. They think everyone from Iowa is a big hick with nothing to offer.

Time for me to lay off the messageboard.

fyi - there really isn't a lot of spots, near the Stadium, to throw a proper tailgate, however, you can do it. I'd advise checking out the Yankee website, under "parking," as there are lots that you can, IIRC, pre-pay for. I'm sure that some of them are big enough to through a proper tailgate and would definitely advise going that route.

OK, I was just on the Scarlet Nation site and found this information. Why can't somebody post more on our site for us?

"As a member of the ISUCF"V"MB ( Iowa State University Cylone Football Varsity Marching Band) I have a schedule of events more or less that goes on during our trip to New York. On game-day there is a pep rally in Babe Ruth Plaza at 12:30. I don't know if that's just an Iowa State thing or if it is even still scheduled to happen, but I thought I would share what little information I know. Look forward to playing you guys and playing with the Rutgers Marching Band!"

I highly doubt that.
Highly.
Whenever I've been in NYC or any other major city...its always the "I've lived here for..." crowd that is rude to everyone else.
Dont lump former Iowans into your cesspool that is the everyday typical rudeness of NYC people.

Manhattan has probably the largest concentration of wealth in the world and maybe a 40% HIGH SCHOOL graduation rate. How do you suppose these two things get squared without a massive and persistent influx of educated people from elsewhere?

The nature of NYC life kind of turns people into what you'd perceive to be jerks, but that is just the rhythm of life that people adapt to. That and a lot of actual jerks are drawn here because the sheer size and impersonal nature of the city makes them feel liberated to reveal who they really are without the burden of feeling accountable for it.

Gotta assume gas grills ok (say "no open flames"), but, I have never seen an RV go to a Yankee game. You really should call and let your fans know. Actually, I think some of our fans our taking RV's so I'll check with them as well and get back to you.

Knowing NUTS, yeah, he was referring to the Today Show.

To experience a little of the Irish culture, definitely hit one of the Blarney Stones. For the Italian, Little Italy along Mulberry St., between Canal and Broome. While I think they are a little touristy, the 2nd Ave. Deli is a great place for corned beef on rye the Jewish way. Katz' Deli on Houston St., pronounced How-stun, is a better.

But like the Huey Lewis and the News song goes:

New York, New York, is everything they say
And no place that I'd rather be
Where else can you do a half a million things
All at a quarter to three...

So if I pronounce the street the same as the city in which I reside, will I get funny looks? Don't mess with Texas!

Good stuff tonight....thanks guys!

I started a tailgating thread on the Scarlet Nation site to see what we can learn from them also. Their forum is pretty solid. Doesn't seem to have the immaturity that creeps onto ours. Or maybe I just haven't read enough of their threads.

I also have never seen an RV at anything at Yankee Stadium. I own one(38 ft) and would never even consider taking it to the Bronx. If you are coming in one find a better area outside of the city and take the bus train etc in. JMHO

Is the 9/11 Memorial something that should be done during the day? I have 7pm tickets for it....

I would guess they wouldn't do tickets at that time if you couldn't see anything but you never know

Might this be an issue of 80+ baseball games in Summer/Fall versus 2 football games in Fall? Surely RU has a tailgating tradition that includes RVs, but maybe that is just at your home stadium. It is very helpful to get honest input from locals about what/where to tailgate.

Can anybody talk from experience having gone to last year's game? I suspect that it was different than an average Yankee game, but still may not be the best idea to bring RVs for tailgating. Yet, they have a lot for buses.

7pm will be fine. In fact, you'll get a great opportunity to see the Freedom Tower with the construction lights on. I don't know if the lights will still be wrapped in various colors for Christmas, but it will be dramatic.

If the game was at MetLife Stadium or Highpoint Solutions Stadium (formerly Rutgers Stadium), I'd say go for it with the RV. But even with the bus lots, I wouldn't recommend trying to bring an RV into the City unless you feel very comfortable in driving in very, very - did I say very? - tight streets.

The bus trip I went on for the Army game this year was perfectly okay going up the Turnpike and across the George Washington Bridge. But when we got onto surface streets, going to the bus parking lot, that was anything but fun.

Personally, I'd stick with cars or conversion vans as the largest vehicle.

CY This is what I was trying to get at on bringing an RV into the Bronx like RUNYY states.

If you are coming from Iowa in a Motor Home/Trailer try looking into Liberty Harbor in Jersey City. Right across the Hudson and though really just a parking lot, has easy access to the path train to the city.Liberty Harbor RV Park Hope this helps some..

1) the memorial will be absolutely beautiful at night

2) actually we DON'T have much of an RV experience, at all, for our home games. We've got 300,000 alumni and students living within 3-hours of New Brunswick. Maybe, for Homecoming, there are a total of 20 RV's in the various lots.

D'oh! I totally forgot about the RV Park. That would definitely be an option that would be a whole lot easier than trying to navigate the streets of NYC.

Thanks for the advice guys. Most Iowans have trouble driving RVs around Ames!
