I know some Tide fans were hoping for Prohm, but Oats seems like a nice consolation prize. Wonder how he will handle the Lewis situation.

I don't think he has ties to the southeast, so how he recruits will be interesting. That said, he's a really good coach.

It does seem like a strange fit. He is from Wisconsin and has MW recruiting ties (Romulus HS in MI). He was ready for a step up in conference but assumed it would be in the Big 10 or Big East. Good luck to him especially trying to sell the Tide fans this will be a step up from Johnson. I am sure they had other names in mind.

He would have been a great fit at Northwestern, even Penn St because both of those coaches deserve to be fired.

Ya gotta luv those worthless contracts. All schools have them. Use other peoples' money to better the cause.

On March 14, 2019, Oats signed a contract extension with the University at Buffalo to remain head basketball coach through the 2024 season.

On March 27, 2019, Oats resigned as head coach of the Bulls to become the head coach of the Alabama Crimson Tide men’s basketball team.[20]
