Newell didn't beat out JGJ. He beat out foster as the the 5th starter. The easiest way to think about it is wins above replacement. JGJ has a higher WAR at tackle than center so they moved him there

A quote from Good-Jones in the register said Newell beat him out for center...
Hopefully that means he is a better snapper. JGJ is probably the best OL on the team, but he had several scary snaps last year. Park, and Kempt deserve a lot of credit for capturing them.
How good is this OL going to be?
Agree. I think we’re a year away, but hopefully we’re competent enough this year.Better than last year but still concerning. Next year is when the Oline should be at it's best .
All right, so it sounds like this is not something to panic about, but kind of in-between.
Newell at C and JGJ at LT > JGJ at C and someone else (e.g. Foster) at LT
Thanks all for the thoughts and insight. Maybe this whole o-line development and grading process is a good question for Ben Bruns to wax poetic on sometime.
