O-Line....Good or Bad ?

Oline was definitely good, and the great news is that some of the best are underclassmen. Oklahoma and Texas just both have very good defensive lines. One game we barely overcame it, the other we just missed.
OU has a very good D line and they cover out WRs and TEs well. There were times when the line did the job but there was no where to throw.
We had a good, not great O line this year, but best thing was seeing that even in a Covid year, we improved the strength aspect of the line, that was our biggest need. Give them all another year in the weight room, and we will see continued improvement up front.
ISU really needs to up our pay to the assistants to keep and retain the quality people we already have in place.

Looking at the line in 2021 has some interesting options. First, this is assuming our 5th year LT decides not to come back. Looking at the best 5 as of now we have 3 guards and an all conference Center. Out of those 4 Downing and Newell would be the candidates to move outside.
I don't think that's our first option but seems to be a viable option if Ramos or Treiber don't progress.

OU's defensive line is just really, really good, and our injuries cought up. We were also painfully predictable for almost the entire first half which makes a defense's job way easier.
Still, we were improved from last year and you could see the difference. Last year I'd say we were definitely below average to poor, and this year I'd say that we were "okay" to average for a power 5 conference team.

Very good dlines are almost impossible to control all game. That being said, The one guy they had will be a multimillionaire in the NFL. He was a man among boys. Just expect issues at times against the best in the Big 12. These issues will never go completely away, d linemen are to good.
Usually Oklahoma's defense is talented but makes a good amount of mistakes (penalties, blown coverages, missed tackles). They didn't do that saturday - they were really disciplined and consistent. They will crunch Florida if they play that way in the Cotton.
Agree. Previous years OU defenders missed a ton of tackles and secondary was porous. They seemed much improved Saturday.
However, I wouldn't expect them to shut down Florida. Florida has a much better downfield passing game than us, which will stress their back 7 more. I don't have the exact numbers, but I think our 1st down production was bad, which made the remaining downs much more predictable for them.
Oklahoma has a top 25 D Line, and probably defense overall. Our O-Line is good, and much improved from 2019, but probably somewhere in the 25-50 range.
I feel like our O line has been pretty decent this year especially considering our top lineman has been out since the Louisiana game. That one dude for OU was just a beast. But in a lot of games we'd start a little slow an then we'd eventually start to wear the other team down. I don't think Hall leads the nation in rushing with a bad O line.
IMO - we were never as good as some people were saying. I do not believe for a second we were one of the best OL in the country. If I was giving us a letter grade, I would go B- to C+ range. Define improvement over recent past. I think Oklahoma’s DL is by far the best we faced this year - not even close. I am no expert on everybody’s DL in the country, but I would say they are top 5-7.
Our O line didn't regress. Losing Remsburg is killer and that sucks for the bowl game. Having said that all of those guys need to bounce back for the Oregon game.
I thought Newell, Simmons, Schweiger really struggled in getting any holes open for Breece. Downing's injury must be quite serious if he missed essentially the entire season.
I like what is coming back for next year, but I would be lying if i said i was confident about this group against Oregon. Now, Oregon probably doesn't have a Perrion Winfrey, that DT for OU was probably the best we faced all season.
Also what i'm looking for, if we can't run up the middle in this game. Let's show some creativity and run outside some. I haven't seen many pitches to the outside to Kene or Breece, or a jet sweep to a WR. All that keeps a defense laterally stressed and needs to be done a couple times a game. This and the short pass game needs to be on to cover up for our injuries on the OL.

You may be right but I’m not sure running outside is the answer against the Ducks. In past years, they have speed all over the field. I haven’t seen the Ducks play this year so I’m not able to comment on their ability to tackle in the open field. Preseason, Phil Steele had their defensive backfield ranked #1 in the nation. I suspect they know how to tackle.
