NFL: NFL Offseason Thread

I'll say Seattle, 2015 and 2014. Do I think Wilson is pretty darn good? Yes. Do I consider him a "franchise QB"? No.

He's not a franchise guy? Let him hit the open market and see how many teams would jump to sign him.
He's young, productive, throws well, runs well, doesn't turn the ball over, insanely marketable. He's easily a face of the franchise type player, and is going to get paid like it.

I'll put it this way- as a Vikings fan, I'll take my chances with TB and his contract rather than what Wilson will be demanding. I think there are a LOT of NFL QBs you could put on that team and get similar results. And this is from somebody who was screaming at the TV for the Vikes to draft Wilson.

and if in three years, Teddy has two superbowl appearances under his belt, including a win, he'll be looking for the same kind of deal, and will get it. Shoot, if Teddy gets Minnesota to the playoffs each of the next 3 years, he'll be a 100 million dollar quarterback. Face of the Franchise type QBs don't come around all the time, and can impact your team far beyond just wins and losses.

I don't disagree with anything you said here, but that doesn't necessarily mean I'd pay him. That would depend on his actual performance. Can you imagine you and me being in the same NFL team's front office? We never agree on ANYTHING NFL related.

lol, yes. but our arguments would always be well reasoned.

To your point, i don't necessarily disagree with you either. Whether or not the going rate for QBs is too high, is immaterial imho. It's the going rate. And if the alternative is the quarterback hell that the Browns have been mired in for years and years and years, I'd much rather pay a ton for a good (but maybe not great) QB and feel like I slightly overpaid.

That's no lie. But I'll tell you this, if you have that franchise quarterback, you don't let go of them. It's a lot harder to find one than it is to keep one.
As a long suffering Vikings fan I know that all too well. What were are going to see is teams paying a huge dollar figure for a QB and then having to keep cutting other players as soon as their rookie contracts are up in order to manage the cap.

Of course that is pretty much what Belichek has been doing successfully in New England. Brady and a few key components and then filling in the rest of the positions with young players with low cap numbers. Playing in the dreadful AFC East certainly hasn't hurt either.

Patriots just signed Matt Flynn to a 1 year deal. On my phone so I can't link the article. Apparently Garroppolo has not been looking too good. I just read something today that he threw 5 interceptions during 2-minute drills yesterday.

Great move for the Pats! If Jimmy isn't ready to start the year while Tommy Boy is out, Flynn is proven.

Multiple NFL players lost fingers in fireworks accidents last weekend according to the yardbarker stories on the side.

Darwin Award nominees obviously.

Let's see here, I make millions of dollars a year because of my great hands as a cornerback in the NFL..... how about I blow them off lighting fireworks on the 4th? Great idea!

Hindsight is a wonderful thing. I'm sure if either player knew that they were going to suffer career threatening injuries then they wouldn't have gone anywhere near any fireworks. It's easy to criticize after the fact, but how many people do you suppose handled fireworks without incident over the weekend? Accidents happen, and maybe these guys were stupid and handled them improperly. Or maybe the damn things just exploded. In C.J. Wilson's case, it's starting to sound like a roman candle he was holding exploded outward instead of up through the tube. So he's stupid because he decided to shoot off a roman candle?

When you have 60 million bucks sitting on the table you are.

he wasn't going to sign that offer anyway, though. He was going to end up playing under the franchise tag, and likely still is. He's not out anything yet, except a finger and some pride.

the real story with JPP, imho, is the leaking of his medical records. ESPN should be in the clear from a legal perspective, but ethically should be ashamed. The hospital, however, is in a lot of trouble. They're likely to be hit with a significant fine.

The last time a New York football Giant made a boneheaded move that resulted in a serious bodily injury to himself was 2008 when Plaxico shot himself in the leg. The Steelers went on to win the Super Bowl that year. I'd start checking Vegas odds.

And to all you Steeler fans out there, from this Giants fan, you're welcome.

I know he wasn't going to sign it... the point is when you have millions of dollars sitting on the table you would probably be wise to exercise some judgement on using explosives... Let alone an entire U-Haul truck full of them.
