Next year

Two words.....Kene Nwangu, or however the hell you spell his last name. Kids gonna be our lightning to Montgomery’s thunder

I've heard Kene has looked unreal in practice. Jaw dropping fast. Would love to see him in a Percy Harvin type of role. Bubble screens. Run the wildcat with Montgomery at QB and Kene in sweep motion. Anyone know what kind of pass catcher he is?

I like the idea of sets with two backs and a QB occasionally.

Narveson and Dunn coming in to help in kicking game. Hopefully we continue the improvement in the kicking/punting/special teams area. Highly undervalued thing in CFB.

Excited about Noland's potential/arm, but really hope Kempt gets another year. Not flashy, but very effective QB. He's a great story that I don't want to see end yet at ISU.
No doubt. Kempt did nothing but win at ISU against the conference part of our schedule, no less! Those bashing him, are just missing his true value. Great game manager, takes less chances with his throws / puts them in places where only his receivers can make a play (see his exceptional TD to INT ratio and compare it to other ISU QBs), seems to understand angles and trajectory exceptionally well, and has such poise under pressure. It would be great to get him for another year!

Regardless, the future is bright for the foreseeable future.

Don't sleep on Jalen Martin. You'll have Martin, Eaton, Butler and Jones. That's 3 big receivers who can all run and a little shifty quick receiver. I like it, I like it a lot.

Didn’t Loney use that effectively in 2000? Sage was a sneaky good running QB too, iirc.
Add in some good TEs and we could get pretty versatile on offense.

Lazard, Murdock, and Ryen are big losses. At times our offense relied on jump balls to Lazard and his blocking.

Think so but I didn't watch that team much...didn't have the TV access.

I thought the jump balls were there at times because even if they couldn't get much push, ISU continued to try to run the ball to make it a threat, and it still was since DM could break something any time. You ended up with Lazard one on one and/or there was time to set up the WR blocks.

Imo for ISU to have consistent success they'll need to shorten the game a bit; lots of running threats helps that.

The defensive line should be absolutely loaded for the next couple of years:

LDE: Leo/Lensing
NG: Lima/Johnson
DT: Uwazurike/Tongamoa
LEO: Bailey

I think the staff is extremely high on the potential of Leo. We'll see. I think Uwazurike also has the flexibility to move to the edge if Johnson or Tongamoa emerge in the middle.

I've been saying this. Figuring everyone plays out eligibility, we don't lose a ton for next year, but the year after that we don't lose a lot either.

I think next year Butler and Eaton can replace the production of Lazard and I think Milton will give another dimension in a vertical sense. If we can get that, our passing game can be much more explosive with Noland or whoever may come in back there. Kempt was good, but he certainly wasn't a guy you were scared was going to throw it over your head. Combine that with a little bit of a lack of a guy who can run by people and our downfield stuff was limited to Butler a few times this year.

I'm worried about the OL like everyone else but it almost can't get worse in the running game. If it gets better, Montgomery should have a better year and someone else can maybe add a few hundred yards of production. Defensively, I'm not too worried about the safeties and STAR. We'll have a couple young guys and Eisworth to try out and worst case at STAR is having to move Payne back there and have Ruth play at CB. Essentially, find two guys and we're just as good. The three guys this year were fine but left a little to be desired at times.

White really looked to know what was going on out there. He had a lot of pressure put on him by others and was fine, I think. Lewis is worst case at the other S spot and he held up fine against the most chaotic offense we faced which is a great sign. I wouldn't be surprised to see him get a scholarship next fall if it's available. This is where people will get mad but I think we're better at MLB next year. Lanning was very good, don't get me wrong, but it seemed he was given limited responsibilities in the defense that really stayed close to the LOS. Sutton or whoever will likely be more comfortable in coverage and it will be interesting to me to see if we go back to a four man front rather than use the MLB as almost a DL at times. Waggoner was solid but replaceable. The DL should be the best unit on the team 1-6 or 8.

One thing I thought on the Oline was that the last three games they got better as the game wore on.

I didn't think they looked poorly coached, just a step behind and without the physicality/size needed. Pass blocking looked good for a lot of the season although Memphis got through a lot the other day.

I still think Carson Epps, and Denver Johnson will do good things for ISU on the field as well.
