New TV Advice

My ~10 year old Samsung TV died just after Christmas and I bought a TCL R646 75". I've been very happy with it, picture quality is really good. The initial knock on this TV was buggy software but most of those issues have been fixed by software updates (at least for me). I was a little leery about buying a less well known brand but so far, so good.
I bought this last fall as well. I like it but still use it with a 2017 nvidia shield. Some of the apps just wouldn't load audio right and did very poorly with Dolby Vision.

Other than that, the only problem I have with it now is that it frequently resets itself to Vivid mode after being in auto-Game mode when I play my xbox.

I also have a 2016 LG OLED. Great TV. Waiting for the 77 or 85" models to come down in price before upgrading.

Just bought a 75" LG NanoCell 80 Series LED 4K UHD from Best Buy a week ago. They delivered it free and I set it up and mounted it on the wall. I'm very pleased with it, the picture quality is great. Wouldn't you know it, Best Buy started taking $200 off the price right after I bought it. My previous TV's were all Samsung.

I have a really bad glare/reflection from a window on my tv. Even with the blinds down. Any advice for a tv that would eliminate or reduce that?

Blackout curtain/shades?
Thought about it but not sure how much longer we’ll be in this apartment and it’ll take a bit of work to get blackout curtains to work. It’s a weird setup. I’m looking to get a new tv regardless so hoped to address it with the tv.

Check https://www.rtings.com/ they have a section on how well a tv handles reflections as part of their reviews.

LG makes the sony OLED panels.
Sony often brings better a heat sink so they can push the brightness up. This year's top of the line Sony will have a Samsung QD-OLED. I'm dreaming of getting the Sony A95K with QD-OLED. It's got lots of hype and will go for $$$.

We’ve got 4 TCLs ranging from 32”-65”, a Westinghouse 42” and a Magnavox 55” in the garage. All but the Magnavox have the built in Roku. We have never had a single problem with any of them and they all work just fine for our needs. I think the 65 was only like 650 bucks when we bought it.

I’ve never really understood spending a ton on TVs. I’ve never been sitting at any of our TVs thinking to myself, “man this kinda looks like **** I wish I would have spent more”.

Because you've never experienced a good TV. It's kind of like someone saying "I don't see the appeal of a Porsche 911, my Ford Pinto goes the speed limit."

Agree. I just purchased this same set at Best Buy. $1,899. With a mid level sound bar for a few hundred more. It's absolutely marvelous.

I bought a 65 inch 4k LG OLED TV in September and I am VERY happy. Pricey but worth every penny as far as I'm concerned.

I also bought the 65in C1 OLED in september. Being able to watch my movies in crispy 4k is a game changer for sure

Could be. It also could be that I don’t watch a ton of TV either.

During the day, they’re pretty much Paw Patrol and Blippi machines if they’re on.

we had to veto Blippi - that guy creeps me out. No way I would leave a child alone with him for even 1 second.

He will be the next Subway Jared.

Fun fact, it’s actually two different guys.

Our two year old loves it.
