New Refrigerator Recommendations

It's depressing but everything sucks now. Three years ago we bought all new GE appliances. Had to have the oven repaired three times the first year. Learned the hard way GE doesn't even make appliances anymore, they sold their name to some European company.

Moved to a new house and got all LG appliances. Control panel on fridge has fried three times in first two years.

Even so, I DO like my LG appliances overall. Used to be a big Whirlpool person as they used to be kings of reliability. Not anymore, since they moved most production to Mexico.

We purchased an LG French door fridge with Water and Ice on the front door and have enjoyed it so far. But we've only had it for for about two months.

On another note, with appliances being on backorder and hard to get, if your in need to one quickly you can do what we did. The frdige we bought was on sale at Lowes for like $2,200. Regular price was like $2,500. Lowes delivery outlook was at least a month out, and very well could be longer based on manufacturing. We noticed that Home depot sold the same fridge, model and everything, but it wasn't on sale. We went and asked if they would match Lowes sale price. They would, but the kicker was that they had it in stock, so we could get it delivered whenever we wanted (which is when we closed on our house). So if you are buying an appliance at a store and its not in stock, talk to other stores to see if they have it in stock and will price match.

We got a Samsung not long ago and it's been great. We need counter-depth so our options are limited, but were able to find a french door with pull out freezer at the bottom. Haven't had to worry about repairs yet, so I guess we'll see about getting someone to work on it but has a decent warranty.

Good luck bud our Samsung washer (4 years old) is rusting out and our old Samsung fridge rusted out. Their appliances are complete $hit.

Not a Samsung. Nobody works on them. Sales people will lie to you and say they do. They’ll even give you examples. And then you call that company and ask, and yes, they work on Samsung. But then they show up, and they don’t work on French door Samsung. Don’t get a Samsung.
I bought a Samsung refrigerator about 4-5 years ago. I wasn't aware of the service issue until a couple years after I bought it. No problems yet, but once it starts, I'll likely be screwed.

With the quality and service levels of major appliances these days, I'm wondering if it just makes more sense to go cheap and plan on replacing more often.

After our Kenmore kicked the bucket last year (after 21 solid years), we went with a GE profile. I had asked about Samsung at the time and the sales person told me to steer clear of them due to their return rate and complaints. We're going on 7 months, but love it so far. Still too early to tell.

I recently asked that same sales associate if anything had changed about Samsung for my own curiosity. He said Samsung revamped their ice makers within the last year due to the amount of complaints and they haven't had any issues so far.

That's not me trying to convince anyone to lean that way, but I figured I'd pass along that nugget of info.

We have a GE dryer and LG washer. Our repair guy loves GE for repairability and scoffs at the LG. Most of the appliance repair folks around here love GE, Whirlpool for ease of parts and such. Might want to talk to one or two and see what they stand by and compare with the ones you’re eyeing.

It looks like refrigerators are unreliable as a whole. The top ones get a 3/5 from CR. What's funny is that the most expensive are the most unreliable, which from my experience has been the same with ranges.

So far, I've been happy with everything from LG. OLED TV's, Washer/Dryer, etc.

We have a washer and dishwasher and they’ve both been great. Plus they have that little jingle when they alert. Pleasant. ;)

Keep in mind that we had 15+ year old washer and dryer previously. What I find weird and I don't know if it's just LG or all HE washers but they make some weird noises. They start and then stop. My old ones were just loud from start to finish.

Weird, my reply disappeared. This is something I went through recently and believe I can provide value so going to write it again.

DONT BUY A LG! We had a French door counter depth LG and in a class action lawsuit with LG. It was fine for about a year then would have warming spells then be okay. It finally stopped cooling below 50 degrees completely late June. We called LG and out of warranty so they gave us nearest repair location that is in Cedar Rapids. We live near Quad Cities.

We called the CR place and talked to a nice guy. When we told him what was going on he asked us if an LG. He said he would certainly fix it but suggested we take the approximate $1,200. and put towards a Frigidaire. He said the compressor LG use are junk and we would have the same problem is a couple years again.

We have 36" tight space, had to be counter depth. I had to have the water/ice dispenser with crushed ice option and my wife had to have French doors. We talked to places and did our own research and decided on Whirlpool or GE. We bought a GE. Some things we like and some we don't but glad we bought it.

Inventory is scarce so be aware but we had to have S/S. White may be more readily available? We have a third fridge in machine shed so luckily used that until it came in.

We had a nearly identical experience with our LG fridge. Will never buy LG again.
