New Gopher Stadium Pics

It looks huge. I didnt think they drew that many fans. With this, the twins, and Vikings new stadiums what will become of the Metrodome.

I think the capacity is actually around 45K, but could be expanded to 55/60K in the future.

wow, looks expensive. I wonder how far the property value will drop when the Hawks roll into town with all the white trailer trash behind them

I believe I heard around 45k or 55k, but it's built with room for easy expansion to 60-65k. Something like one of the endzones can easily be renovated but they don't want all the empty seats until they can fill them.

I heard all this a few months back, but that's the general idea.

I like the brick, but i really like the updates that were done to Wake Forest's stadium that were posted the other night much better.

ok nevermind, i became un-lazy and looked it up. 50k and first the room to finish the bowl and make up to 70-80k or something ridonk like that. i know by november they get more people going to hockey games then football games(in comparison).

I don't think it is fair to judge their past attendance figures to predict the future. Honestly, would you want to attend your home football games in a dome? . (sorry UNI fan) Seriously, college football (unlike pro) is so much more about atmosphere and a stale dome stadium fails miserably in that department

Someone asked about the future of the Metrodome. So far, the Vikings have failed to get anything approved for a new stadium so it is their home for now.

This is a true statement. I lived in MLPS and people up there want to be OUTSIDE. That is why the Twins are going to set attendance records when the new place opens and the Gophers will likely do the same.

Look at the St Paul Saints attendance numbers.

Also regarding attendance -- this is being built either on campus or adjacent to it. That in itself should boast attendance by several thousand as I assume it greatly increases the likelihood to draw more students to the games.

I like the huge opening behind the north(?) endzone. Lots of room to haul a goal post out of the stadium.

Wow, I have a major case of stadium envy. And 55-60k with room to expand easily would be a great size for us.

As long as the hok fans don't run into any revolving doors on the way......

and aren't you putting the cart before the horse assuming that iowa will even be beating minnesota in a couple years?

Dude...come on...it's Minnesota. Even you guys could be them.

didnt know the gophers had that many fans, let alone the big 10

Gophers-Badgers games, and Gophers-Hawks games get really high attendence in the metrodome... Moving on campus will increase ticket sales. I already know of some people that live in MN that are going to get season tickets for the new stadium, even though they don't really go now.

Anyhow, here are some numbers:

Capacity is 50k... Future expansion could seat up to 80k
Cost: $290 million.. TCF will throw somewhere around $95 mil total for naming rights.. They also increased student fees by $12.5 a semester (according to my sister who goes to school there) for the stadium

Anyways, it's going to be pretty sweet. It's right by Williams Arena (basketball), and the hockey arena too. There are some cool bars in the area, and places to eat... Also, there should be better parking than the parking in downtown Minneapolis, so hopefully tailgating will improve there.

Overall, it's a great move for the University, and I think their program will get a lot more support in the future.
