Just to throw it out there, we should all know this pronunciation better by having our beloved gyro cart in Ames for the last 20 years. The "G" in Giorgos is pronounced as it is in "gyro". See also another former Cyclone, pronounce the "G" similar to the "J" in "Jiri"(Hubalek).

Giorgos = "yawr-yos"

I thought someone earlier said its "Yor-gos." The "gos" sounds like ghost without the t.

Lots of the things posted are exactly the same said in the Niang thread. Just saying.

I don't know much about the kid, and haven't read a whole lot about him yet - but it sounds like Hoiberg may have picked up a real gem. Anxious to see what Hoiberg can do with a true biggy in the line up. I can't imagine how dissappointing it would be to be the Hawks and have a 7+ kid who grabs one or two boards a game (and who can't dunk without a mini tramp).

Giorgos obviously has a lot of potential and Fred is just the man to take advantage of it. With the ability to run the floor like Tyler Zeller and shoot the 3 like Chris Bosh, opposing big men will have a hell of a time defending him. Developing his back to the basket game will be key and playing with and learning from Niang will be huge. It may take him some time to be ready to compete consistently in the Big 12 but he's got the tools to be a very good if not great player. The greatest thing about this commitment is we would be fine without him but the sky's the limit if he reaches his potential. Pretty awesome to be able to say an athletic 7 footer with a nice outside shot is just icing on the cake :)

Yup. This post says it all. /Thread

Time warp to the Shawn Taggert thread.

Hopefully Giorgos moves here this summer. IMO if he joins the Greek National team and stays there longer, it increases the likelihood of this deal falling through greatly.

I also have this feeling. I wish he would sign his LOI/AidAgreement or whatever international recruits use to ensure his attendance at ISU before he heads off with the Greek National team.

Signing an LOI is no guarantee he'd come. But he will make it here. Who would choose playing for the Greek National Team over playing for Fred if given the chance?
