I am in need of some podcast recommendations. I used to listen to the radio all day every day and now I just can't do it anymore. I have been churning though podcasts and am looking for some new stuff. I enjoy all manner of subjects so feel free to suggest anything. A short list of things I have been listening to lately.

Dan Carlins Hardcore History
Two Bears One Cave
IA Everywhere
Fly on the Wall
Joe Rogan Experience
Talk of Iowa

Dan Carlin's Hardcore History Addendum (his shorter version stuff he puts out between his Hardcore History episodes)
SmartLess
Mother Country Radicals (politics aside it is a great history lesson of the 60's/70's)

Ultra Rachel Maddie presents. A little political but more history.

I will leave the political ones out.

PM your high-level interests in that realm if you want to go down that route.

ALAB Series

Three attorneys sit around and talk about some of the most hilariously brazen and unethical stories of the legal profession. Seems to be discontinued now, but they have a good backlog.

Last Podcast on the Left

A dark/absurdist comedy about tales of the macabre (e.g., cults, the occult, supernatural events, true crime, survival situations, etc.). Their humor isn't for everybody but I like their storytelling.

Political Beats

This is a National Review podcast, but it has 0% political content. The two hosts and an invited guest pick a musical act, from the 1950s through today, and talk through their discography. It is a good way to learn more about the history and catalog of favorite bands and a good introduction to new ones.

The Bill Barnwell Show

Barnwell is probably the best writer and commentator about the NFL -- very nerdy and analytics-driven but also has a "gee whiz" and self-deprecating nerdy charm about himself that I appreciate.

The Martyrmade Podcast

Cooper's politics are... controversial, to say the least, or at least complex... but he's an excellent storyteller on historical topics. Very similar to Carlin when it comes to longform historical podcasts. I would recommend his lengthy series on the history of Zionism (Fear and Loathing in the New Jerusalem) and his absolutely fascinating and revealing series on the history of Jim Jones and the Peoples Temple (God's Socialist).

Told in Stone

Garrett Ryan has a Ph.D. in classical studies from the University of Michigan. His podcast discusses various historical topics related to classical antiquity, and he invites some of the most august historians in the world on these topics in for conversations -- he's an excellent interviewer in the medium.

Rewatchables - fun podcast with Bill Simmons (and guests) where they dive into movies deemed "rewatchable". Just listened to one yesterday on Dumb and Dumber.

Also would second Smartless.

Office Ladies is a good one if you liked the show.

Back when it was free, I listened to the total volume of "On the Brink of Armageddon" by Carlin. Just phenomenal.

I love the Rewatchables and other Ringer podcast on current series. Not sure what I liked more, watching House of Dragons, or listening to the Ringers break down of the episodes.

For sports, my favorite is SVPod

For news, I usually start the day with WSJ's what's news

How Did This Get Made is a fantastic one making fun of bad movies. Done by some of the actors from The League if you remember that show.

I really liked Office Ladies when it first came out. I was a weekly listener for the first year or more. Much like the actual show, it really seemed to go downhill as it went on though. I know my 30-something male mind is not their target audience, but I got tired of all the random deep dive and lady-gossip stuff they would get into. They would do an hour-plus podcast and only actually talk about the show for what felt like 30% of that time.

It also gave me a "don't meet your heroes" moments with some of the cast. Ed Helms is boring AF to listen to, for example.

That being said, it's still probably the only podcast my wife and I can listen to together while in the car with the kids.

Behind the Bastards - discusses "the worst people in history"
99% Invisible - "the unnoticed architecture and design that shapes our world."
The Art of Wrestling - still going, but the best stuff may be in the archives

Slate’s One Year series is very good.

Each season focuses on one year of events, usually through important but overlooked specific stories.

Most Slate podcasts are very political but the vast majority of these aren’t cave subjects. The kind of things you might not know about but afterwards can’t believe you didn’t know. In rare cases where I am familiar with the event, it’s still fun nostalgia.

+100 to Behind the Bastards.

Broken Record (Rick Rubin & Malcom Gladwell).

Slow Burn is pretty great too. One annoyance is you have to subscribe to Slate Plus to get the last episode of each season. :insertMadFran:

A lot of good podcast recommendations. I’d add that you might look into a library membership for audio books. I tend to flip back and forth between depending on my mood
