Had they stayed, with TX down the last few years now, they could have been contending against OU for the B12 title. It would have rejuvenated their old rivalry. It would have been shades of the good old days with the good new days. What happens if Frost gets them back to 9-3 under Frost; ala Pelini, Solich, etc.?

Nebraska simply hasn’t been able to adjust to the reality of transitioning from a conference (Big 8) and an era where one other school (Oklahoma) cared about football and maybe 2-3 did in phases (Colorado, Missouri, Ok St) to the modern reality that nearly every school needs football to succeed in order the their athletic department to succeed.

So far, they’ve fired two relatively successful coaches and switched conferences. They keep getting pounded by anyone with a mediocre team, so they’re left with trying to screw G5 programs out of their payday. But the entrance to Memorial Stadium still says they have the best fans in college football!

I like that Frost says they have hit rock bottom and are on their way up. Nothing like giving a little motivation to your next opponent (Purdue) who has lost 3 close games and just beat a ranked opponent. Also, they still think they are making a bowl game this year . . . .

Plus, as I saw somewhere else, you don't know you've hit rock bottom until afterwards. It could get a lot worse for them before it gets better.

Maybe Frosty will get them back to consistently winning 8 or 9 games, but all this lack of "buying in" talk is entertaining. I'm sure there has been some resistance, but that's not surprising if you have a staff that doesn't hold themselves accountable. If the staff so readily looks to pass the blame, the players will too.

You think 8-9 wins will satisfy the most delusional fanbase in the country? They think they’re Alabama, just waiting for the right coach to wake up a sleeping giant because...they were always good in a previous era.

Their resources are no longer unusual -
everyone but the most devoted of basketball schools lavishes their football program with whatever facilities money can buy.

Their strength and conditioning program is no longer exceptional - not because it has deteriorated but because everyone else has caught up.

Their walk-on program is no longer a difference-maker since dozens of the best in-state players getting booster-funded “academic” scholarship no longer escapes scrutiny.

Their recruiting can no longer rely on partial qualifiers who have the option of Nebraska or a JUCO.

Their head coach can no longer actively participate in the investigations of players, meeting with victims or witnesses and relying on pliable police and prosecutors to slow walk investigations and charges.

The world’s changed and it’s a new era, their fanbase just hasn’t noticed.

Why do people say it takes years to develop a line but not other positions?

Because it does. Blocking grown men is harder than running around them. The strength and technique involved for a lineman takes years in the non-elite, developmental kids.

Nebraska fans need to look at the bright side. An unknown walk-on did his part by capping off the scoring with a meaningless TD against the opponent's backups. Fans from a generation ago, when they were an elite program, would have been high-fiving themselves in the aisles. What was missing from yesterday was Osborne leaving his starters in to run up the score by 50 plus points before the scrubs got a chance to rub it in.

They play in the Joke of a conference known as the BIG 10 west. They should be playing in the big 10 championship every other year. I think that is what a lot of the Husker fan frustration is, you have an easy conference and you are still not winning.

They also lost a large portion of their traditional recruiting areas when they "got paid" by the BIG. They still lose a good percentage of the decent in-state recruits...i.e: Fant to Iowa from Omaha South and several others. Additionally, the old walk on program is long buried as many of these players now play on-scholarship for other teams.

Welcome to reality Nebby fans...Frosty may bring you back to .500, but you no longer reside at an elite level.

I have done some research it seems that most schools just paid because it is the correct thing to do. Really a million dollars means little to us and everything to SDSU it is their entire budget. I was blown away with Nebraska fan said that. The wheels are coming off in Lincoln. Scottie is still publicly calling out his own players and just gave Purdue big time bulletin board material. I was all on board the frostie train but they are terrible. should have been 100-0 Nebraska is so far away from being good it is insane. I have never seen a coach call out players for not buying in a month into a season, something is off. Other players are having press conferences calling out other players. zero discipline on and off the field . total disaster.

It is my understanding that we paid SDSU $328,000 that was the contract price agreed too. Nebby's contract with Akron was for over a million. We are buying another win in December, if we are not in the championship game, for $300,000. Granted, I agree that 300k is a lot of money to FCS teams. Nebby is being stupid twice. Once trying to buy a win for over million and then not paying when Akron fulfilled its agreement.

How in the world can Nebraska make a bowl game with their schedule.....How can Scott Frostbite win the requisite 6 games to become bowl eligible.....Puleez Mr Frostbite puleez explain how you win at Ohio State ....Wisky and ChokeEyeLand with your present players who can neither Tackle Nor Block....

Good lesson for the citizens and voters and students of Nebraska.....don't do what is right and contractually obligated, just do what you want depending on how you feel. Nationally contagious. Lawrence Phillips beat a young coed and dragged her face along a hallway smearing her blood all over the building...but, hey, it was in the best interest of Nebraska Football to not pursue any justice. Seems to be a trend in Lincoln.

This has been discussed before, by people who know more about it than me, but what has REALLY killed Nebraska is the end of the "partial qualifier" rule. Along with abandoning decades of recruiting ties when they joined the B1G. Combine those with the retirement of Saint Thomas of Osborn, and you have the program we see today.

Putting 40 lbs of weight on and still being agile takes years. Plus 22 year old vs 18 year old is big time difference in the trenches. BYU has older players due to their 3 year mandatory out reach program. Biggest reason they can stay relevant every year IMO. Gotta have the body, talent, and mentality to be a high end D1 lineman.
