Winning power 5 conference championship = x points - a big number.
# of wins = x points.
Wins over ranked opponents = x points.
Add up the points, the 4 teams with the most points get in. It should be very difficult for a school which doesn't win their conference to get in the playoff.
This bowl committee is far too political. Alabama gets in because they only have 1 loss - but if they had played in the conference championship they could very easily have 2 losses. Same with Ohio State in 2016. A school is better off losing a game and not making the conference championship game and waiting for a spot to open up when higher ranked teams lose in the conference championship game. It isn't a new system, simply an extension of the old system with more teams.
