I think part of the angst is that sports have always been an escape from the realities of life. Now it's all being taken away in the middle of an unpleasant reality.

Yep and that makes sense but when we're done deflecting reality, it's still there.

This is one of those things where people could really change their perspective on how obsessed we are with irrelevant things.
