I had forgotten he went out for the football team one year. I can't remember if he ever saw the field.
Silver medalist in Olympic hurdles though.

He used his 5th year of eligibility for it, came after the Olympics ... Ironically, I think he initially signed to play football.

37-0 in 400-meter hurdles vs. college competition.

In 2009 Paul Rhoads led us to 7 wins and a top 35 scoring defense nationally with starters/major contributors including:
Kennard Banks, Michael O'Connell, Nate Frere, Zac Sandvig, Josh Raven (I have no recollection of who this is), Patrick Neal and many other extremely unheralded guys who came in as low level recruits.

Well known to us elders but sure brings back memories. Smoked a doobie or two with him on a couple of occasions. He always claimed during those encounters (paraphrasing) that he wasn't that fast, he just hated getting tackled. He was fast and elusive.. Where did those 50 years go?

Edit to add:
Blue averaged 32.8 yards per KO return in "74 (second nationally)
Averaged 18.4 yds/catch during ISU career
1st team AA in 1976
Tracy Henderson.

I used to see him once in a while at our Costco. He struck up a conversation when he saw my Cyclone hat. He used to talk me up whenever he saw me. Not sure where he is now.

Joe Brown ... DB, played alongside John Arnaud.
Tommy Davis ... backup to Crutchfield in '81, rushed for almost 1,000 yards in '82.
I interviewed Crutchfield. His favorite TV show at that time was Different Strokes.

Alex Giffords. Saw him in a class after the Oklahoma game and he had his head down the whole time. Tried to encourage him but not much worked. He generated the best headline in Cyclone history. Cyclones ‘kick’ Hawks was the headline in the Sunday peach after the 23 to 12 home win.

Alex's sister is former Member of Congress Gabby Giffords. They are also second cousins to Gwenyth Paltrow.

Gary Thompkins

Years ago I was in the Copper Dollar on Main Street and some guy ordered a beer, he placed his massive meat hook of a hand down on the bar. I had to turn and look and it was Gary.
