weed eat first then mow. Try to weed eat every over week or so when mowing time lines up on the weekend. By July it turns into whenever I notice the saplings along the fence line are to big for the weed eater. So once a month or so.

Off topic, but my god are the weeds out of control right now. I'm pulling weeds nightly and I can't even begin to keep up. Beginning to think my house was built over a vineyard or something with the amount of vines that pop up.
I spent around 2 hours on Sunday afternoon pulling weeds. I had one of those paper yard waste bags about half full by the time I stopped. I'm not as good about keeping up on regular weeding, but it gets out of hand quickly.

I mow first then trim, but I think this makes the most sense.
The most sense that doesn't cost you much cents is to hire Kuberski Brothers to take care of all the yardwork. Your lawn will look like Augusta National in no time.

I always trim first then mow. That way the mower mulches/bags the trimmings. Granted I have a suburban yard with a push mower. And I’m the only one doing the work, not a crew.

Just like I floss before brushing. The toothbrush removes the bits of gunk that the floss loosens.

Have to weed eat after mow so I can check my lines and make sure I didn’t get distracted and miss a spot/line with the mower.

Dogs are too much work and needy. I like Cats....

Live on an acreage and maintain close to four acres. I only string trim every other mow at most. The windbreak (evergreen) groves are weed-controlled out to the dripline with a 2 4 D/Roundup spraying. All deciduous trees not on the immediate house yard are also sprayed around their trunks (6 -8 inches) to eliminate trimming (debarking). All outbuilding perimeters are lined with a foot wide gravel boarder and maintained with roundup. Most of the house has flower beds contained by edging that can be mowed over by the rider. I dispise using the trimmer and only trim about every other mow--if what I trim has gotten too tall, trim first other wise after. BTW, I have farmed most of my life and practice good stewardship when using chemicals.

Mow first then trim. Same concept as a barber cleaning up your hairline after he cuts your hair.

The river rock flower beds get a steady dose of roundup all summer long to take care of the weeds.

The poll seems very decisive.

Another one in the mow then trim crowd. I usually only trim every other mow and even then it is not like I can see a bunch laying around because I trimmed second.

I trim first because I'm lazy. I know that if I get tired after mowing the lawn, I'll just skip the trimming part. On the flip side, I'll never skip parts of the yard when I'm moving.

I mow first.

why:
1. I hate weed eating and only do it when absolutely necessary
2. I am not a "lawn guy" and don't care how it looks.
3. By mowing first I can eliminate some weed eating because I get right up to the fence, landscaping, etc.
I think living in the country makes a big difference on this topic. I've always lived in the country and nobody cares about how good the lawn looks as long as it isn't overgrown.

Does 2 4 D hurt the evergreens? I have a newish evergreen windbreak that I struggle with keeping grass\weeds around it under control.

Agree, But when I had my house in Des Moines I felt the same way. There was a guy a couple houses down who spent a lot of time on his lawn, I used to just shake my head and laugh at him..
