Right? Think of the early 2000s, when you had guys like Shaun Alexander, Priest Holmes, Ladainian Tomlinson, Curtis Martin, Jamal Lewis, Corey Dillon, Fred Taylor, etc. I'm probably forgetting a lot.For once being kings of the NFL, running backs (in general of course) have next to no value.
I would hear the talk every august and just be flabbergasted that everybody expected to be good for reasons I could not decipher. It's unavoidable and the SNL skit has a bit of truth in there. It's like living in Lincoln and trying to not follow Nebraska football. I wasn't a fan but I got to know it all much better than I cared to.
It was still more football like than what they're doing now.Right? Think of the early 2000s, when you had guys like Shaun Alexander, Priest Holmes, Ladainian Tomlinson, Curtis Martin, Jamal Lewis, Corey Dillon, Fred Taylor, etc. I'm probably forgetting a lot.
There were so many stud running backs around the league. There's still plenty of talent now, but it's definitely not the same
The whole pass heavy thing was more fun before pretty much every team adopted that approach. I get rules changed to almost make it necessary but I do miss watching truly great running backs. The quality of running backs doesn’t feel much different, they just don’t get the opportunities. It was still more football like than what they're doing now.
