Michigan Transfer Max Bielfeldt

The article saying Max is out on us is tenuous at best. It is an SBNation blog called BTPowerhouse and doesn't even quote Max saying he has crossed us off. It gives Max's quote about him waiting to see how the Hoiberg/Bulls situation plays out, then it just states that since Fred is gone Max must have crossed us off. No statement from him. He very well may drop us, but I don't think it is confirmed yet.
 
I saw that yesterday and wondered how an article could say we were out and then say he wants to win right now since it's his last year of playing. how many top 10 teams is on his list? one. how many will be top 10 regardless of coach? one.

Get out of here. That would make sense.
 
Iowa State must still be in the mix. If his decision about ISU hinged on Hoiberg's return/departure, it seems like he would've declared for one of the other two already. Unless he needed to be 100% certain of the move.

Now, he may be waiting to see who is named Fred's successor before making the decision. He's waited this long, might as well ride it out.

Everyone ripping how Fred ruined recruiting next season should try living in the moment and letting the future play out. He left us with a loaded squad that can compete for a national title. Like many have pointed out on here, that is extremely rare. Future years will work itself out.

Yeah, but what happens when one of them gets into foul trouble? Or is injured? Are we going to play 4 or 5 guards? Are we counting on Niang and McKay to play basically 40 minutes every game?

Both Burton and Nader can play the four, so it would likely be three guards and 2 "bigs", or Nader/Burton at 4, the other at the 3 with two guards. I'm really not too concerned, though one extra big would be nice.

Returning Big 12 defensive player of the year and likely 1st team preseason All American is a solid start. Biefeldt would be a huge addition to that in my opion. Sounds like a team first guy that is willing to do the dirty work.

Burton is 6'4 and Nader did not show himself to be much of a defensive player last year. Hopefully, that can change. I am in the camp that says we need some size. Even Georges is not a great interior defender and is prone to foul trouble.

He also has a 7 foot wing span, can jump out of the gym, and is built like a Mack truck. I'm not saying he should spend all his time at the 4, but he can fill in if needed.
 
Bielfeldt would be fantastic and all that we need to fill out our frontcourt. Has he said he's not coming? I'm fine with McKay, Niang, and Nader with Burton in emergency situations.
