Most European countries appear to have all peaked at about the same time in their fall "wave". Most of these peaks, and now downturns are coming before new lockdowns were implemented. The new UK lockdown is supposed to start tomorrow, about a week after they already peaked.
Keep in mind most of these places are not seeing excess all-cause mortality above the norm for this time of year, even with these small waves. As of now, anyway. Remarkably consistent trends through most of the EU. The spring wave in the U.S. seemed to peak 1-2 weeks after the EU wave, so it'll be interesting to keep an eye on that.

A higher in-hospital risk for those with Covid-19 shown for smokers (which we probably already know), and higher even for dyspnoea (which I hate to admit I had to look up). Dyspnoea, or dyspnea, is the fancy term for shortness of breath. Dyspnoea and smoking were higher mortality risk than several comorbidities.

Our county public health department contact traced a friend of mine who teaches at the high school and told her to quarantine. The mind boggling part was they told her she could still teach if she wore a mask and a shield but couldn’t go anywhere else. So ok to be in a classroom for 50 minutes with a bunch of kids but not run into the post office for a minute or to go grab a gallon of milk somewhere. I think the parents should have a right to know that.
So the person in question was exposed or tested positive? One of those I’d have problems with, the other not so much as long as she was closely monitored for symptoms, tested negative, etc.
She was told to quarantine because she was exposed. She asked if she should get tested and public health said not unless you have symptoms, some stuff about tests not being accurate. But if she’s good to be in a room with 25 kids at a time 7 times a day, why is she not good to go anywhere else?
Last I knew, she begged the principal to let her take a few days off. He let her take one but not more cause they can’t find subs. Then she went to school and was coughing and he let her go home and try to get a test. The test was a negative. Went back to school still coughing and not sure what happened since. She does not usually have seasonal allergies. Her exposure was with a friend she walks outside with, but I think they went into a store for coffee or something.
This football season is going to be tough to finish.
Substitute teachers are very hard to find this year. A fair portion are retired teachers, who (understandably) have opted out this year, in many cases. (anecdotal, but makes sense to me)
