Mediacom vs. Qwest Internet

I got in on Mediacom's deal last month for $19.95 I get the 12mb service. Next year is 34.95 but I'm only under contract for one year. Couldn't believe how good a deal that was.

High Speed Basic $15
Mediacom Online Service $47.95
Ecobill Paperless Credit -$1.00

Total $61.95

A little expensive.

Just call them and ask for a deal. Thats what I do.

I did and even said that I was going to cancel. The lady on the phone said "Well when would you like us to come out and unhook it". She called my bluff.

I've had good luck in the past with XM and Directv lowering my bill but not this time with mediacom.

We have mediacom for internet only, and continue to use Directv for television. You don't have to purchase cable. You can get the internet by itself.

Personally I'd steer anyone away from qwest. I've had problems since I've lived in my current home (2.5years), I've literally made hundreds of calls and had over 15 different techs come out. Each time they fix it for a a couple weeks and then it stops working, it takes another 15-20 calls to get them to send a tech and we go through the same process. They say theres something major they would have to do to make a permanent fix, I guess one person having problems isn't a big enough deal so I'm basically screwed because its the only high speed option where I live. They have some of the worst customer service you can imagine, I even had one of them call me an ahole.... If i had any option besides dial up Id ditch em.

I just searched for this online and noticed it was only supposed to be for existing cable TV customers? Was this your case? I know that it expired at the end of April. I had an installation scheduled for this morning. I am not in that much of a hurry to switch from Qwest to Mediacom, so I called to see if they could give me the $19.95 offer. They said its not available anymore and that it wasn't offered in my area. Hmmmm. Well, I just told them to cancel my install and they did. Apparently, they don't want new customers very badly. They wouldn't even waive the $29.95 installation fee when I originally scheduled the install.

Random bump, but I've been having the same problems as the OP for the last few months. We've had 1.5 mbs Qwest for over a year and just recently the speed has dropped from ~1.2 mbs to ~.3 mbs. Does anyone know why this would be? I've tried to talk to them and even got a new router and that didn't fix it. Now they want to come out for at least $85 to check out our phone lines, which I really don't want to pay for. Any suggestions?
