OK. Here is the big reveal. Voting results were:

#1 Iowa with 158.
#2 Texas with 145.
#3 North Carolina with 129.
#4 Florida with 127.
#5 California with 126.
#6 Tennessee with 111.
#7 Ohio with 84.
#8 New York with 60.
#9 Pennsylvania with 44.

I was glad to see each of the top 9 get a significant amount of votes. This was a much more fun way to play than just picking the state with the most teams.

Many seemed to have shared the assumption that I must have gone six deep to include Iowa, but @Kettes doesn't know me well enough. My kids would have known that I was just trying to through you off.

More of CycloneFanatic Nation picked Iowa than Texas, as well as Tennessee instead of Ohio. For the record, Tennessee is a good guess as they often have the most schools in the tournament.

I still think Iowa deserves recognition for what has to be the top percentage of D-1 programs that made the tournament.

Here are the actual counts (please let me know if you find any discrepancies):

Texas (7) – TCU, TAM, Houston, UT, TTU, SMU, Prairieview A&T.
North Carolina (5) – Duke, UNC, NC State, Queens, High Point.
California (4) – Cal Baptist, UCLA, Santa Clara, St. Mary.
Florida (4) – USF, UCF, Florida, Miami.
Ohio (4) – OSU, Akron, Miami, Wright State.
New York (4) – St. John’s, LIU, Siena, Hofstra.
Iowa (3) – UNI, Iowa, ISU.
Pennsylvania (3) – Penn, Villanova, Lehigh.
Tennessee (3) – Vanderbilt, Tenn, Tenn State.
Alabama (2) – Alabama, Troy.
Georgia (2) – Georgia, Kennesaw State.
Kentucky (2) – Louisiville, Kentucky.
Michigan (2) – MSU, Michigan.
Missouri (2) – Missouri, St. Louis.
South Carolina (2) – Furman, Clemson.
Utah (2) – Utah State, BYU.
Virginia (2) – VCU, UVA.
Arizona (1) – Arizona.
Arkansas (1) – Arkansas.
Connecticut (1) – UConn.
Hawaii (1) – Hawaii.
Idaho (1) – Idaho.

What does this question mean? What are the top six states? Or are six states supposed to all have a tie for the most?

TX, CA, and NC are almost always in the top 5. FL, NY, OH, PA, and TN are usually up there as well.

Growing up when I did, seeing a tourney without any of these teams is something that takes getting used to: Wake Forest, Seton Hall, Cincy, Xavier, USC, UNLV, Syracuse, Indiana, Marquette, Georgetown, Temple

OK, it is confirmed. I suck at managing the details of this game. Not only did I fail to list Washington (Gonzaga), but I also failed to list Indiana (Purdue) and Kansas (KU), but I suppose that is understandable because Indiana and Kansas are now known for their football.
