Roberto Orci has been hired by Sony to write a Spider-Man spin-off movie for the Sony-Marvel cinematic universe. Orci wrote the Amazing Spider-Man 2, but he was involved with the Sinister Six film a few years ago before that project was cancelled. I wouldn't be surprised if Sony is looking for a way to combine all their talent (Michael Keaton, Jake Gyllenhaal, Woody Harrelson) and maybe bring Spider-Man, Morbius and Venom together to stop them.

I think all the tea leaves are definitely lining up where a Sinister Six film is inevitable at this point. More just a matter of when and who exactly is all in the lineup. I'd also guess that if we were to see a Sinister Six movie, it likely would not be part of the Disney partnership. As for this writer, knowing he was one of the writers on Amazing Spider-Man 2 doesn't exactly give me a ton of confidence in the dude.

Orci has been really hit or miss. His writing credits include:

The Island (which I really liked)
The Legend of Zorro
Mission Impossible 3
Transformers & Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen
Cowboys & Aliens
Star Trek & Star Trek Into Darkness

He has (or maybe had) a very strong relationship with JJ Abrams, as he also wrote for TV series Alias and Fringe.

Production on Shang-Chi has been suspended and director Destin Daniel Cretton has gone into self-isolation while he waits for results for COVID-19. Filming is happening in Australia

As many of you know, Destin, our director, has a new born baby. He wanted to exercise additional caution given the current environment and decided to get tested for Covid-19 today. He is currently self-isolating under the recommendation of his doctor. While he waits for the results of the test, we are suspending 1st unit production in an abundance of caution until he gets the results this coming week. Second unit and off production will continue as normal. We will reach out to everyone by Tuesday for the latest update.

Other MCU updates:

*Principal Photography wrapped on The Eternals back in early February, but like most films there were likely reshoots that were to take place as editing is underway. We'll see if those reshoots happen and if it pushes back their Nov release date

*Spider-Man 3 is still planning to start filming in May. They will be filming in Atlanta.

*Vin Diesel teased earlier this week that some of the GOTG will appear in Thor 4.

*Black Widow release date has not changed from May 1, but Disney has pushed the release dates for New Mutants and Mulan.

MODOK is now rumored to have his first appearance in some MCU film being shot within the next year. As crazy as that sounds, I know the Russo Bros have talked on multiple occasions about their desire to introduce MODOK in one of their films. However, they aren't slated to helm any MCU project in the near-future, so who knows if its true or what film he could make an appearance. Making an appearance doesn't necessarily mean he is a main villain or even fully developed. Could just be an initial appearance teasing his future, similar to Samuel Sterns (The Leader) was in The Incredible Hulk. Granted, that isn't the greatest example beings how we have yet to see anything come of that initial tease.

And now the rumor is that MODOK will appear in Ant-Man 3 and that Jim Carrey is being targeted to voice the character.

As a more casual fan, I could see MODOK getting ridiculed by the general public due to his appearance. He's a villain that has been around forever, but he's not going to be be well known by nearly as many people. His design is very cartoon-like in comparison to what has succeeded so far. The best villains so far have been mostly believable (as far as supervillains go). Even in some of the cartoon versions I remember, I had a hard time giving MODOK his due.

I agree with you: MODOK would be one of the last villains I want to see adapted in the MCU. I think his look is too cartoonish. I also think the same thing about Reed Richards/Mr Fantastic, which is why I don’t want to see another attempt at FF or at least not a FF where Reed Richards is part of the main crew of heroes.

I will say that I didn’t think the modern Arnim Zola would work in the MCU and the Russo’s nailed his “cyborg” look in Winter Soldier, so anything is possible.

With this latest delay in New Mutants, which is only the latest of the long history of delays for that movie, I wonder if this is the latest straw they need to consider just dropping that movie straight to streaming on Hulu or Disney+. My guess is based on the more mature level of content I hear is in that movie, Hulu would be the better landing spot of the two.

To add context to this discussion: The new Pixar film Onward is available for VOD starting today and will be on Disney+ on April 3. I don’t think New Mutants is a property that Disney wants on Disney+, so perhaps they go straight to streaming services.

This article is saying that Keanu Reeves is in talks to play the Johnny Blaze version of Ghost Rider in the MCU. The article states that the source of this rumor has been correct on a number of other MCU rumors that turned out to be true.

Spot on casting if you ask me:

I love this idea. However, I hope they just don't completely discount the Gabriel Luna Ghost Rider in the process, because not only did I love that character, but I loved him in the role. I was super sad to see his solo series cancelled.

A number of films have had their release dates pushed back.

Morbius has been moved to 3/19/2021. Was originally set for 7/31 of this year.

Untitled Sony-Marvel film (likely Spider-Man 3) has been moved with no new date targeted. Was originally Set for 10/8/2021.

*Venom 2 release date has not changed (yet) and is slated for Oct 2

I find the fact that Venom 2 will now come before Morbius to be quite interesting. I wonder if there is any chronological ties between the two with their stories that might make things a bit confusing. Maybe not though.

I find it unlikely that Venom 2 is still on-track for release this year, only because Sony moved Morbius and Ghostbusters: Afterlife from the Summer 2020 to March 2021, which indicates they are throwing in the towel on the summer box office. I'm surprised that Sony didn't shift Morbius to fill Venom's October release date - Vampire movies and October release date would seem to be the perfect pairing. The fact that Venom hasn't been moved must mean Sony is confident in what they have filmed so far, so maybe they can make it work. The first Venom movie was one of the highest grossing October releases ever, so maybe Sony is still hoping to recapture that box office magic - assuming people can still go to the movies this year.
