I found this interesting, not that I didn't think they would do a season 2, but rather where they would do it. I thought there was a chance this might get held out for Disney's upcoming streaming service, but I guess not. At the same time, nobody really knows what exactly the terms are with Netflix for all these characters.

I'm guessing it's a combination of riding the hype from S1 and also positioning Netflix to keep the rights to their existing Marvel shows. Even if they started production on S2 this Spring they would be hard pressed to get the series on Netflix before the Disney platform launches (in early 2019). Maybe they could work out some sort of deal with Disney to share all the series going forward and distribute them on both Netflix & Disney platforms - who knows?

There is no doubt most of the potential lies more in the FF villains than the heroes. However, I'm now ready to see what Disney can do with the FF. I wouldn't have said that 5 years ago, but I'm ready now.

Agree on the villains.

Just imagine in Infinity War pt 1 that Doctor Doom and Magneto should be there fighting with the good guys and in Infinity War pt 2 Galactus pitches in with the cause. I'm sure they'll be able to do something similar with Ego or the cosmic beings from GG/Thor but still one of the reasons Infinity Gauntlet started me getting into comics as a kid was the threat so severe the villains and cosmic beings fought beside them.

It's time for everyone's year-end reviews for 2017:

Which was your favorite (or top 3, top 5, top whatever) comicbook movies of the past year?

Which film (if any) was your biggest disappointment?

What 2018 movies are you most excited for?

My movie of the year has to be Wonder Woman. That movie had a lot riding on it, and DC didn't disappoint. Great story, great characters, & great action.

My top 3 films from last year would be:

1. Wonder Woman
2. Logan
3. Spider-Man: Homecoming

Biggest disappointment would probably be Guardians of the Galaxy vol 2. It was an entertaining movie, but it didn't really deliver like the first installment did.

There are plenty of great candidates for my most anticipated movie of 2018:

* Infinity War is probably at the top of most lists, just because of the scale of the production and the MCU has been building toward this moment for 10 years.

* Can Deadpool 2 be even edgier than the first film?

* New Mutants is trying something new stylistically, by merging the comicbook and horror genres

But my most anticipated movie of 2018 has to be Aquaman. DC showed with Wonder Woman that they are capable of making an entertaining stand-alone film. If they can deliver a similar stand-alone experience with Aquaman it would give me hope for the greater DCEU.
Here's a list of the comicbook movies coming out in 2018:

Feb 16: Black Panther
Apr 13: The New Mutants
May 4: Avengers: Infinity War
June 1: Deadpool 2
July 6: Ant-Man & The Wasp
July 20: Alita: Battle Angel
July 27: Teen Titans Go! To The Movies (Animated)
Oct 5: Venom
Nov 2: X-Men: Dark Phoenix
Dec 14: Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse (Animated)
Dec 21: Aquaman

Is there "counter" DC movies in this part of the year ?

Good luck to them.

Nope, DC only has Aquaman in Dec and then they come back in 2019 with 2 confirmed films (Shazam and Wonder Woman 2). There is a possibility The Batman stand-alone film would also be released in 2019 as well, but Affleck needs to figure out if he's staying around or not.

2018 looks like a weird year for comicbook movies. As you pointed out, there isn't a DC film in the summer, but there isn't another MCU film in the Fall or Winter either. Aquaman could be a big winner of the holiday season box office, since there isn't an MCU or Star Wars movie to compete with (unless Han Solo gets pushed back).

Here is my Superhero movie rankings for 2018:

1. Wonder Woman (Easy Answer)
2. Spider-Man: Homecoming (keeps growing on me every time I watch now)
3. Logan
4. Justice League (Screw everyone dogging this film, there was still many things I liked)
5. Guardians of the Galaxy 2
6. Lego Batman Movie
7. Thor: Ragnarok
8. Power Rangers

Biggest Disappointment: Thor: Ragnarok ---- just was too much of a comedy for my liking, lacked heart, and its tone doesn't really fit the MCU well

Looks like Marvel's Runaways has been officially approved for a Season 2. Has anyone checked out this show yet???? If so, is there any connections you see to the MCU??? I'm currently in the back half of the seasons for both Punisher Season 1 and Gifted Season 1, but once I get through those, next on my docket is Runaways beings how the season should be done by then and I should be able to just rock right on through the entire season by then. With that said, I've heard nothing but good things so I'm pretty excited. If anything, I'm just hoping that they layer in a few connections to the larger MCU. I really want this series to exist in the MCU.

So, I finally finished off Season 1 of The Punisher a couple days ago (I know I'm kind of late to the part on this), so I thought it was about time to post my usual review. I actually really loved this series, and I mean a lot. Not only is the casting pretty ridiculously on-par with Jon Bernthal as Frank Castle/Punisher, which had already become obvious after Daredevil Season 2, but the casting of everyone else was nearly just as good. In fact, of all the acting in all the Netflix series so far, I thought the acting in this one was the best. In particular, Ben Barnes as Billy Russo was amazing. Yes, the Ben Barnes who was previously most known as pretty boy Prince Caspian in the Narnia movies. Truthfully, Ben Barnes is now one of my new favorite actors moving forward.

Moving on though, it wasn't just all about the acting either as I thought this series probably had the best and most complete story of all the Netflix seasons so far. The story was intense, grounded, deep, thoughtful, interesting and unlike pretty much every other Marvel Netflix series so far, actually never really lagged at all. Typically, there has always been a couple throwaway filler episodes that you wish weren't there with all the others, but not with this one. While there was still slower times for sure, everything always seemed to move the plot forward, which was pretty impressive, especially for a Punisher series, which might have been one of the harder characters to string out into 13 episodes.

A few other things worth noting is that this series also almost doubles as a commentary on military PTSD too, which I didn't really expect, but it did a good job of it. There is no doubt I definitely walked away feeling more informed on that subject. Also, this series is violent and brutal. In fact, it is the most gruesome Marvel Netflix series we've seen so far...... by a lot. If it had a movie rating, I'd call it a hard "R". So, this series isn't for the faint of heart, but it very much stays true to its character. I'm just saying this as it is something to be aware of before watching.

Overall, I just really loved this series. In fact, it is now my new favorite, mainly because it was the most complete series of all of them in my mind. The story was great, the characters were great, the heart was there and the action was spectacular. I walked away wanting more. Truthfully, with how much I loved this series as well as many other people I read their stuff, I am still a bit flabbergasted as to why the reviews are so mixed on the series. In fact, I see the show only has a 62% Rotten Tomatoes score right now, even though its audience score is a really good 93%. To me, that is a bit of a joke when you compare it to a Defenders score of 74% and a Luke Cage score of 95%. I mean, you can't be serious right????? Luke Cage was just OK, and The Defenders was not very good overall. At least the audience seemed to have liked this even if the critics didn't. I will argue that I think a lot of that poor RT score is somewhat political as one can't deny that a series like this isn't exactly coming at the best time, especially on the heals of the Vegas shootings. Also, some people just don't really like guns and gun brutality and this has a lot of both of those things. I'm just wondering how much those things are affecting the score or not. Who knows? Anyway, regardless of what critics think, I really like this series. Just when I thought Marvel TV was going downhill on their Netflix series, I consider this a tick back upward.

Look for me to update my MCU rankings sometime soon to include The Punisher. Next up for reviews will be The Gifted on Fox, which I've only got a few episodes left. Then, after that, I'm going to grab a Hulu one-month subscription and knock out all of Runaways.

I was surprised by the lower RT score of The Punisher and my friends/family complained about how slow it was, after raving about Luke Cage. I liked both series, however I found The Punisher a lot faster than Luke Cage.

Luke Cage wasn't necessarily slow for me. In fact, I found the first half of the season to be really good, but the back half to just not be very good.

Ben Barnes was also in Westworld. He plays the soon-to-be Brother-in-Law to Jimmi Simpson's character.

Looks like Marvel is in fact working on a future Black Widow movie, which they've always talked about possibly doing for a really long time. It hasn't been fully green lit though. I'm stoked as I've said many times how much I've wanted this. To me, this is their chance to do a fun pure spy movie (Jason Bourne style) with some fantastical elements (this is the MCU and all), but much less. What sold me on this idea a really long time ago was one of The Avengers prelude comics (canon) to the movie which was simply a Black Widow spy story and it was really good. So, while there is no doubt a Black Widow movie won't make Avengers money, it also could run a drastically lower budget meaning profitability could still be super strong. Also, I wouldn't be surprised if the Black Widow movie actually doesn't take place in present time, but rather goes back into her history, which is a very intriguing once, kind of like the prelude comic did.

There is a new Jennifer Lawrence (your favorite Mystique actress, I know) that is coming out March 2 called "Red Sparrow." It may as well be called Black Widow. Jennifer Lawrence's character is a Russian ballerina that is recruited and trained by Russian intelligence to go undercover. Joel Edgerton is also in it as a CIA agent.
