Marathon Runners Thread

Since this got bumped, roll call for IMT next weekend? Just the 1/2 for me.

I did half dozen marathons in my 20's and 30's, all just over 3:00 (3:02:37 was my best). I could never break that damn 3:00 mark.
I'm 75 now and I couldn't do 1 mile at the pace I ran 26 in 1988. Old age. Swimming has been a big help but I never liked it as much as running.

I started running when I turned 40 and had high blood pressure. Ran my first marathon in 2013 at 45, the week after the Boston Marathon bombing. I decided then I was going to qualify for Boston. Ran it in 2016. I ran 20 marathons before I had to stop for cancer treatment again at 53. My fastest was 3:16 which I used for my Boston qualify. Was trying to get under 3 too eventually but 2016 was also the year of my first cancer diagnosis. I was able to keep running for several years but it kept coming back. Now I'm in hospice care with little time left dreaming of running IMT which I ran 7 times including the I35 challenge (KC Sat, DM Sun).
Sorry for the rambling.

Thanks for sharing and may God give you blessings in the time you have left.

I'm doing physical therapy in the pool and swimming. Perhaps I'll try running but I need very low impact. Thanks for the advice.
You can also get a float that goes around your waist. This will lift your body out of the water and allow you to run without touching the bottom. No impact training.

Hope none of you had to experience the Madison Marathon today! Brutal day for a race. Never got above 28 degrees and 20-25mph wind off the lakes the entire time.

Was a brutal one but got it done!
