Luke Combs at JTS

I've read people saying that it was a great concert. What made it better than others? Was it just the JTS-effect?

That's what it was for me. I've seen a lot of really good shows over the years (mostly at Red Rocks), but seeing The Jack packed like it was on Saturday night was something I'll remember for a long time to come. Seeing Luke Combs perform "Better Together" on stage was the cherry on top for reasons personal to me.

They need the guys with buckets strapped to them like at baseball games. Seems like such an easy solution. Their main problem is getting the beer to the vendors when the concourse is packed

They had beer vendors walking thru the stadium. I had no issues getting beer whenever I wanted one all night.

I will say that George strait parking was 100% more organized. They filled a section and didn’t care where you wanted to park for the most part, you were in that section period. Then they moved to the next.

Saturday had a lot of people standing around with thumbs up their rears doing jack squat. They would push you through one section and then it was a free for all.

I just scrolled through the Story County Inmates page. That's a LOT of public intoxes.

ISU PD posted their "post game stats" that they usually do after football games and I think I saw 16 total public intoxes.

Saw the teaser earlier. Huge get for Ames to land a show this big at the stadium. It’s going to be packed for sure.

For me it was, the lineup, great songs, the vibe in Jack Trice was just amazing and Luke Combs embracing the ISU part. He had an ISU hat and chugged a beer with Niang, just made it that much cooler I thought.

Then would almost fall on us (her friends would have to pull her back) whenever she stood up. My group learned to really dislike that one even though there were a couple other very annoying ones in the group.

My opinion, it’s fine to sing along with the performance, but screaming the words as loud as you can just wrecks it for people around you when you drown out the actual singer. It wasn’t even singing, it was just screaming. And this isn’t the woman who was just randomly screaming.

This goober came stumbling down right by my wife and I. He took off his shirt, he didn't need it because he was a very hairy man, tried to start a "Let's Go Hawks" chant and failed. It looked like he may be sitting with a group across the aisle from us. My wife wasn't going to have any of it. Thankfully he stumbled off down towards the field. I like to think he got arrested immediately when he got to the field.

I can't imagine spending the amount of money he did only to get arrested and miss the show.

He has quite a record. Charges in 5 to 6 counties around central Iowa. Just the person you want as a representation of your fan base.

Overall had a great time at the concert.

-Parking was kind of a mess as others have mentioned. Worse than George Strait. It also seemed to me that certain areas that I thought would be full were less full than they should have been. We got directed to park in the B lots by Hilton and that was an hr or so to get out of when it could have went much faster (had 2-3 exists blocked). Also wonder if dry weather would have solved some of the issues.

- Openers were good imo. Jake Worthington sounds a lot like George Jones to me. Dierks was great, I think his band was the best of the night. Luke was good as advertised, and it seemed he turned up the vibe in the stadium to another level. I liked the ISU tie ins he had. (Hat, bringing Niang out).

- Beer lines & bathroom were improved, still could use some work. Biggest thing is only having a couple workers at each station I think. Did the food run out super early or get shut down? I was hoping to get something about 10pm with a water and nothing. Not ideal.....

This woman was around college age. They were a little drunk and my daughter and her friend said they were drinking cutwater. I didn’t know what they were but they told me they are around 12% alcohol.

I'm not a huge country music guy, but my wife and I went to the concert and we both had a great time. I've never been to a big stadium concert before, so that was a new experience to me and I really enjoyed it. Being a football season ticket holder, it was a little different being in Jack Trice for a different event. The crowds on the concourse was way more crowded than I'm typically used to for football games, but I think it was probably a lot more people trying to get concessions (read: alcohol) than normal.
Relieved the weather cooperated. My wife and I just had our own pre-show tailgate party in our car while waiting out the early rain, then once we got to the stadium after rain had stopped it was pretty comfortable.
Just a really fun time all around and I hope to come back for more concerts at JTS in the future.

They're pre-mixed cocktails. I bought their canned Bloody Mary once and it was awful.

This is awesome to hear. I guess one poster had a bad experience but the vibe I’m getting is that there was an improvement. The stadium will never be built for beer vending but it’s certainly doable. Honestly, a concert will have more demand than your average football game especially after the first few games. Hopeful the AD realizes this.

Having the stage in the center made a much bigger difference than I would have thought. Seeing the entire stadium full of people surrounding the stage helped create a great environment.
Having LC walk out with Iowa State logos on the stage video, wear an Iowa State hat all night during the show and an Iowa State Flag under the stage that a guitar player stopped in front of to play was great. Niang making an appearance brought the house down. I kept waiting for any type of reference to TOE but it never happened.

While they didn't sell GA Hillside tix, this was a great spot to watch the show and they filled up pretty good. I'm disappointed that Post Malone won't have this setup and the hillsides won't be an option.

This was the first large stadium concert I've been to, but I agree having the stage in the center of the field is the way to go.
My seats were in the second deck near 50 yard line, so I had anticipated being on the "side" of the stage, expecting it to be oriented towards the end zone club. The fact that the stage was in the center (with the rotating middle) and the artists spent time performing on each side greatly improved the value of my seats I felt.

They did have those guys walking around. I got all my drinks from them and it was way quicker than waiting in line at the concessions. The concession lines were so long it was almost impossible to get through the concourse.

So was traffic leaving worse than football this year?

Wife saw some FB posts of people saying it's the worse traffic they had ever seen, but I'm wondering if they were from people that don't go to games regularly.

We go to all football games and the traffic for the concert was way worse. Usually once we get back on 35 South towards DSM after a football game, traffic lightens up. On saturday we had stop and go traffic almost the whole way back to Ankeny. Concert ended at 11:15 and we got back to Ankeny around 1

Right before LC came out they played a recording of Sweet Caroline. The whole stadium sang along to it. Even the Hawk fans near me were into it. LC knew where he was at and played into it. Was nice to see.
