Lincoln Riley post game

Lincoln was a no show for his slot in the Big 12 Coaches Teleconference today. They may put him on later, but he missed his scheduled 10 minute slot today.

Wonder if Herman will do the same?

Lincoln did come on at the end. Said good things about Iowa State.

If hold or pass interference was called on that play it would need to be called on 90% of pass plays in the game.

Anyone think the different way they are assembling officiating crews today is leading to the blue bloods getting less special treatment than in the past. The NCAA is attempting to limit travel for officials so they are more local. It seems like games all over are being called more evenly as the traditional are being broken up.

Agree there is a lot of holding, but I think there is less actual defensive pass interference that happens than most think, and probably more offensive PI than people think. Fans, and unfortunately officials, seem to have it in their brains that the offensive player has more right to the ball, but once it's in the air every player has equal right. If a WR and DB are pushing each other coming down the field that should be either no call or offsetting PI on both. The number of blatant shoves to clear space by receivers and TEs commit with no call is crazy. You are seeing more of it called now, but it still has to be blatant.

There is a lot of holding, impeding routes, which I think they need to crack down on more. But maybe it be reduced if defensive players weren't getting called for PI so much when there is just as much or more contact being initiated by receivers and TEs.

Between OL holding, PI, Def. Holding, calling pick routes, etc. the danger is once you take the approach of "it happens on almost every play" you get these different interpretations by different officials, and they get applied selectively and inconsistently.

Riley should be more upset about some of the big drops by his receivers.

Not to take anything away from Hall, but his players seemed afraid to tackle in the fourth quarter too.

Again I don't want to take anything away from our guys because I think they played harder, but when that cold rain started it was like ISU started hitting harder and OU started just hoping our players would fall down.

I turned to those watching it with me and said that our defense is freakin loving it when it started raining.

Hold or not, that would have been an int. Young baited Rattler into the throw and was in perfect position. My favorite call of the evening was when an OU player kicked Hudson while he was on the ground after a PAT and somehow Hudson got called for unsportsmanlike.

the entitled whining from Riley and Rattler is a pretty good indicator of why OU is 0-2 in conference.
The okie player threw a punch.

I like to give that ISU team a little bit of credit for how good Mahomes is. I see it as the big moment that made him dig down deep to start on the path to being an NFL MVP.

:jimlad:
I watched Lincoln Riley on the recap show for Sooner football and he commented several times about horrible calls at pivotal times. The only credit that he gave was that ISU was a good team and Hall was a good back. He basically laid it at the feet of a combination of bad calls and his teams inability to make plays when Purdy threw several balls that easily could have been picked. He was in denial.

Players follow how the coach is. Coach is cool and collected the player is too. Coach is a whiney ass then the player will be too

Riley came off as the embodiment of cool prior to losing these last two games. Glad Iowa State can do our part to help expose the level of whining which was just below the surface. We'll see the same thing when we beat the MensaMan.

It’s funny CMC could have had a similar post game call. Bad penalties, settling for field goals blah blah blah.

@NWICY

That's tough. If it's not us taking over the Big 12s national presence, it needs to be OU or Texas. Otherwise the big 12 is a laughing stock. It may be heading that way if somebody doesn't emerge

He's not crying too badly. He said the kick return was the biggest play of the game. The fact is whatever side lost was going to be complaining about the officials. They threw a ton of flags. And if the roles were reversed ISU fans would be losing their minds over that play on the interception. Who knows if the hold made a difference in the play, but there was enough there to throw a flag IMO, and definitely enough to set a fanbase off. But them's the brakes. OU got away with a lot in the game too.

Totally agree with post. So Okie now feels the pain, like ISU's years of losing.

Go Cyclones !

I feel like OU is just different under Riley, they weren't unbeatable under Stoops but I feel like their swagger was real, they were more physical and intimidating. They are soft now. We've pushed them around the last 6 quarters we've played them. I love our guys and our staff but we saw a ND team that wasn't anything special big boy us 10 months ago. OU just doesn't feel like they are capable of that anymore. Texas isn't great but they are scarier in that regard than OU IMO.

Riley was lucky to have the QB's he's had at OU, even as an OC, he doesn't appear to have the right guy to carry them this year, he needs to figure something out or they are going to get caught a couple more times . KU is the only team I can't see hanging with them, they're going to be in dog fights all year.

I feel about the exact same way about Riley. Part of that is Iowa State being a much more complete team that can hang with the likes of OU consistently, but they don't seem the same, either. Their defense has a lot to do with that. They are extremely soft on that side of the ball, and have been even before Stoops retired.

We may not be world beaters but our defense smacks people sometimes and can get real physical and that is something they lack.
