NFL: Kansas City Chiefs Thread

55 yard dot and he still takes blame and says he could throw it shorter lol

He is being the leader of the team in front of the press and public. That is his job, and he took part of the blame for the throw. It should have been caught, they all know that, it was a perfect pass, but he didn't want to leave MVS out to dry in the public.

Who gives a ****? Its not his fault his receievers suck. All he's done the first 7 years of his career is be the best qb statistically anyone has ever seen.
Well I would say Mahomes gives a **** or he would have left his wide receiving core out to dry and ripped them. But he didn't because it then becomes the headline on ESPN tomorrow. "Mahomes rips his receiving core", instead of that the Chiefs lost the game. That is what quality organizations do, they keep it internal, and do not air it out in public.

Yep and they take the example from the top. Reid is always putting blame on himself and saying he needs to better for his team. It’s why he is so successful

Sitting at 6 - 1 going in to the run of At Denver, against Miami in Germany, and the Eagles is a dream scenario after the week 1 loss.

Honestly I would be real happy with 1-2 over the next three, but this defense can slow down Miami. The only loss I am fairly sure will happen is at home vs the Eagles. Losses at home under Reid are more likely than losses on the road.

Well. There ya go.

Not getting a #1WR at the deadline might be the deathnail in the season. 2 of the losses are due to really bad drops at really bad times.

What #1 type guys were even available, though? Guys like Adams from Las Vegas and Sutton from Denver were theorized to have been movable, but I don't know that either of those teams were going to deal with an inter-division rival. Maybe they could have pulled D-Hop from the Titans, but who knows if he is even capable of being a #1 anymore. It's one thing to say that they should have acquired a Bonafide #1 receiver at the trade deadline, but making that happen is another task altogether.

You're correct a true #1 would have been hard to come by and I am glad they didn't give Draft Capital to the Raiders for Adams. But this team doesn't have have a true #2 Receiver right now. Hindsight is 20/20 but not making a big push for Hopkins or keeping Juju was a bad move.

Never thought I would worry about a Patrick Mahomes lead offense ruining a top 5 defense.

JuJu has been bad and injured a lot this year so I don't think that would have made a difference. At this point they just need to keep grinding and working on getting better. This reminds me a lot of the Bengals game last year. Good news is Chiefs still are the favorites to get the top seed in the AFC.

Chiefs lead the league in drops with 26, we should have upgraded and got a # 1 WR at the trade deadline. I said before, we need to trade all the picks in this upcoming draft to get a WR. That guy is not going to be there at 30, but he will be there at 10. Time to bite the bullet or let this group keep playing like this.

The Eagles have 2 better receivers than the Chiefs do.

Gotta do something, the WRs they have now are maybe guys that are WR3 or lower on the depth chart on most good teams. Trading some draft picks to move up to get a WR early in the draft or make some tough moves in the offseason to clear up the space to either trade for or sign a high priced veteran that is available. Mahomes is making catchable throws, leading the NFL in drops is plenty evidence that he's hitting targets and the guys are just not finishing off the play. He's too good of a leader to throw his teammates under the bus publicly but gotta think behind the scenes there are some conversations going on about getting him some help and holding guys accountable they do have.

The big question is what do they do with Chris Jones in the offseason. He's going to be expensive to keep whether it is on a franchise tag or they sign him to a new deal. If they make the maneuvers to keep him there probably won't be cap room to go after an expensive WR without some trades or tough cuts. Also will be other areas of needs, Pacheco is the only RB under contract right now in 2024. Just looked at Jawaan Taylor's contract and he jumps up from 5.83 mil this year to 24.73 next season - woof! Smith is only on a 1 year deal at LT. Other free agents of significance: Danna, Wharton, Nnadi, Willie G*y, Tranquill, Sneed, Mike Edwards, and Townsend

Here's a breakdown of Taylor's contract. If I am reading this right the Chiefs are stuck with him for at least another year as next year he would be a dead cap hit of 34.18 mil but after that his dead cap hit in 2025 would be 9.45 if I read that right? Either way he has turned out to be a bad signing, every game just dumb penalties. Thank goodness he is not playing LT like orginally thought he might when they signed him.

First thing you do is not resign MVS, that frees up $14 million for next year, Jones is going to be the hard one, he either has to sign a new deal by the draft or you move him, and take the money to resign the LB's and try to get a WR.
But the salary cap will also increase next season, so they will have more than the $4 million cap space that they have now to work with.

Part of perplexing thing to me is why they don't get Rice more involved and why they are still trying to play like 6 guys. THe first half they were getting Rice the ball in areas to let him make plays after the catch. Same with Toney that first half, and then they just didn't go back to it. And for whatever reason they love Watson and I feel like Mahomes looks to him too much when he is out there and he just isn't that good. But he is comfortable with him. THere are times as well I have seen Skyy Moore get wide open and Mahomes doesn't throw it to him like he doesn't trust him. But I also don't think they are using him correctly. Mahomes I think has refused to take easy throws at times this year and instead is looking for deep shots that aren't there. Rice should be getting the most targets of anyone in that receiving crew. I was hopeful Hardman would be the deep threat that MVS hasn't been but of course he got injured right away last night.

At the 3:44 mark.

Hardman getting hurt early didn't help the situation later in the game. For as much money as MVS has made, the guy really doesn't bring a lot to the team at the money he is making. At least someone like Jones is performing at a high level.

MVS also had that other inexplicable moment when he slowed down and then didn't know which way to turn for the ball. That should have been another big play but he messed up. And Watson also messed up what should have been a TD by running the wrong route.

KC could get JJ out of Minnesota. He has not signed an extension yet because he wants to make sure Cousins will be there (which he won't). How does a Mahomes Jefferson connection sound?
