NFL: Kansas City Chiefs Thread

Unless there are some injuries or lack of performance from guys at the WR I'm not sold yet that Ross is going to see many targets, especially early in the season. I do think they will mix him and Rice into some situations and formations that will result in a big play but as far as consistent target shares go I expect that MVS Toney and Moore to be the top 3 guys at WR for now.
I think Richie James is sneaking under the radar. Good speed and really good hands.

Bosa's deal wont affect Jones deal at all. One player is an edge rusher, the other is a DT. Jones will sign for 26-27 mil/year
I think age has to do with it too, that's why Veach is only offering a two year extension. But to combat the short term they're offering a really high if not fully guaranteed salary.

Bosa's motor and tenacity has never been questioned, neither in college or the pros. Until the last 2 years Jones was known as a great player when he wanted to be but the want was often unpredictable. That history and the holdout makes be question the motivation behind the effort.

Personally I have no time for players that hold out. If you want to be paid market value annually sign a one year deal and carry the risk. Wanted a better deal the first time around? Blame yourself or your agent. Jones signed that deal and should stick with that deal. If he doesn't like it he needs to look in the mirror or get a better agent.

It's his fault, not the Chiefs.

I think his agents kinda stink. He is easily their highest profile client. Their next best are Byron Pringle and TY Hilton???? Come on now.

You can be a good agent and not be Scott Boras or Drew Rosenhaus (slimy *****), but something is clearly amiss. Either the agent didn't do a good enough job (what the client wanted) or Jones has buyer's remorse. Either way it's a Jones' camp problem.

These things shouldn't even be allowed in the first place. The only players I "feel sorry for" are the ones on rookie deals who perform and then get hurt, ones who never got a chance to capitalize on their value. Jones could and probably would have had a bigger deal to begin with had he brought the effort before these last two years. But he didn't. He didn't have to sign a 4 year deal or a deal at all. But he did. In these scenarios the players should be forced to play, retire, or face 2 year suspensions from the league. Yes I know, it will never happen but it should,

Nothing worse than someone holding out (******** and moaning) for something that was their own ******* fault to begin with. With that said the Chiefs will probably sign Jones, but if they do they should insist on some performance clauses. I could easily see him going back to his sporadic efforts of 3-4 years ago if and when he gets his deal. The Chiefs need to protect themselves against that.

I think they are protecting themselves by only making it a two year extension and not a five.

I don't think he's going to take it, if he would the deal would already be done. I have a feeling he wants a minimum of a 4 year deal for no less than 100 million in guaranteed money.

I could be wrong (often am) but think the Chiefs would have gladly extended him for 2 years, for any reasonable number. That mitigates the long term risk, age related decline risk, and overall guaranteed commitment. I think Jones wants a longer term deal with more guaranteed money than what the Chiefs want to offer.

On principle I'd tell Jones to pound sand. In reality, if he plays close to his potential, he's a top 10 impactful player in the league (Top 4-5 QBs, Jefferson, maybe Chase, Donald, Jones). An elite tackle that can do anything is one of the rarest commodities in football. Based on that you almost have to find a way to get it done because he's irreplaceable. I don't envy being in the Chiefs position right now.

I have a feeling if they don't sign an extension soon that the Chiefs will play this year out then franchise tag, sign and trade him before the 2024 draft.

This may be exactly what they do. Usually such moves don't fetch good returns but I think the Chiefs could get a pretty good one for Jones.
