NFL: Kansas City Chiefs Thread

You're still not really getting it. They aren't really changing anything about the contract or the dollars Mahomes has gotten or is getting paid. It a literal cap trick to designate a roster bonus as a signing bonus to spread the cap hit over multiple years.

Mahomes got a roster bonus of $34 million this year. KC converted $12 million of that into a signing bonus to create cap space this year by spreading it out over the next few years. Mahomes still gets a $34 million check this year. He does not have to approve any of that because it has zero effect on the money he is owed.
I completely get that these moves are just on paper and are not costing Mahomes any money. But I also believe that no organization would just unilaterally make such a move with a player like Mahomes without his agent OKing the move.

That is what I have been saying all along, the Chiefs or any of the better teams are always keeping their players up to date on what they are doing roster wise, and if for some reason, Lee Stenberg said "NO" we do not want to move the money for some reason, it would not happen. That is all I am saying, can they do it, sure they can, but they would not do it without Mahomes signing off on it.

I think you are grossly overestimating the impact this type move that occurs routinely across the league has on any particular player and why they would ever feel the need to veto this even if they could. In fact, most players would be for it as it creates more flexibility now at the cost of a smaller reduction in flexibility in subsequent seasons. And while I'm sure they want to keep QB1 happy, they aren't soliciting his opinion on every single move.

Heard Veach on 810 today. He indicated talks have picked up the last couple of days and he remains hopeful to get Jones deal done in time for Week 1. Even if he signs tomorrow, doubt he plays many, if any, snaps. But would be nice to see him on the sideline with the deal done.

Hopefully Toney is good to go week 1 as going to need all hands on deck if Kelce is out. I drafted Moore in the 11th round of my fantasy league draft hoping for a breakout year and he's sure a tempting play if Kelce is out but until I see him play a game or 2 not sure I can trust him over my other options quite yet.

I see that Reid carefully address the elephant in the room regarding Chris Jones while Kelce kind of called him out on his podcast

Travis Kelce raises concern as Chris Jones' holdout nears Week 1 - ESPN

If Chris Jones walks into the facility tomorrow or Thursday morning, do the Chiefs even play him??
They probably would suit him up but maybe only play him in certain situations if needed. Would assume he has kept himself in shape during his holdout that would not take much to get him game ready but not getting any game prep in this week it would be hard to just roll him out there like nothing happened.

Sneed is a worrying one because he has been out most of the fall
He's been dealing with a knee issue for some time. It might be like JuJu who was dealing with chronic knee inflammation where it requires constant management. Typically is ready for game time, but every week is just a battle to get ready. May hamper his chances at securing any big time contract after the season.
