NFL: Kansas City Chiefs Thread

The Oline has been good when healthy. Even last night Pole did a great job considering his first start. Mahomes is not trusting it a lot of the time. He bails on clean pockets or doesn't step up in the pocket a lot of the time. It correctable for him, but he is regressing in that aspect.
Even when the pocket has been clean, it seems so compressed compared to what I see from other teams. I don't know if it is the Tackle philosophy or a skill issue, but they collapse back really hard which pinches off the sides of the pocket. If the guards lose ground at all, Mahomes is stuck behind a wall of humanity where him being a little shorter than some of his peers becomes really noticeable.

I don't know if good is the right word. Adequate at times(when healthy) is how I would describe it. They seem to commit a lot of penalties.

Yeah while the defenders don't necessarily beat them by going around them they seem to knock them 3 steps back which shrinks the pocket.

Last night we started two starters and lost one after the first play. The line has blocked well when they have all been there. Simmons missed a month, Taylor has been better. This groups of backs scare no one, and we need an upgrade there. Would love to get the Love kid out of ND, but I doubt he will be there to pick, in the 2nd round.

They aren't drafting a running back high in the draft. The team has way bigger concerns.

Best available at 1.Tackle 2. Defense at any position being priority rankings. If there is no tackle worthy of that pick then draft the best defensive player available. Id love to find a great safety. We need to take a TE in the first 3 rounds. This team isn't void of talent. The team needs to address the playbook and offensive scheme more than it needs significant roster upgrades.

We have Simmons and Taylor for tackles next season, the kid that came in to play yesterday looked good. Plus Morris will be back next year as a back up or replacement for Taylor.

Taylor sucks. He looks better than last year but that isn't saying much. We need a LT and move Simmons to RT. He can be an all-pro at RT. Simmons isnt good at LT really either he just isn't bad and he's way better than Taylor was last year. Having someone who doesn't get destroyed or flagged on every play is what you notice.

Yes he does, but we cannot get rid of him, his cap hit is something like $27 million the next season, we cut him his dead cap money is $34 million. Simmons will be a great LT, we do not need more tackles nor are we getting rid of Taylor.

The Chiefs will draft Dominique Orange in round 2 if you want a prediction
Maybe totally depends on who they take in the first round, they have Lott coming back next season off his injury and he showed promise. With Jones and Lott, Orange would be a sub next season. I would hope they would get a player that would start with their second draft pick.

They are not set at WR. Rice is a good #2 but is not an alpha WR. Does not do good against man and doesn’t make the tough catches. Worthy is ok. Kelce is the man but it’s time to go. We have no one that beats man coverage right now.
This is absurd. I dont know what you expect out of a WR1 but in fantasy Rice is better than guys like Chase and St. Brown on a per game basis. The only guys hes behind are Puka and JSN.

You expect a WR 1 to make the big contested catches. Not drop 2 drive extending balls in the 4 quarter like last night.

His dead cap is only $7 million if cut after this season is complete.

We are fine at the WR position and its not a position of need from this draft. At most you are looking for a 3rd receiver not a #1 or #2 receiver out of the draft. Have said all season, running back is more of a need and a TE than receiver.

It's 1 game dude, AJ Brown dropped a potential game winner last night also. You dont think elite recievers ever have drops?

man, that's an interesting comparison you're making and I don't think many NFL guys would say it's helping your argument.

I think the Dolphins are highly likely to cut Hill this offseason, I'm curious if the Chiefs would have any interest in bringing him back. There will be other wr's on the market, should be a pretty decent year to need one in FA actually.

Ben Solak asked this in an article on ESPN and I hadn't considered it before. Justin Jefferson for 2 firsts, who says no?

Outside of the draft picks, there is no way KC could afford Jeffersons salary with this current roster. While he would be a great addition to the team, we have other needs more important than another receiver.

sure they could. They have several avenue's to create cap room, most notably reworking Mahomes deal and cutting the right tackle. Mahomes has a 78 million dollar cap hit for 2026, that will be reworked regardless of what path KC takes this offseason. They'd save 20 million by cutting Taylor.

Chris Jones has a 45 million dollar cap hit in 2026 but I'd be leery about restructuring his contract given his age and performance decline.

If you make Mahomes cap hit for 2026 20 million and cut Taylor, you'd have 47 million in cap space to use in 2026. Jefferson would have a 25.5 million dollar cap hit for the Chiefs in 2026 after Minnesota picks up the dead cap hit for his signing bonus.
