NFL: Kansas City Chiefs Thread

This is disrespectful to Reid (edit: and Belichek actually). He's gotten 100+ wins twice, with different franchises and guys at the helm, and KC was no slouch before Mahomes got there. Pat's talents just took it to another level.
How many coaches can be labeled Great instead of Good? Belichek is 71-80 without Brady but will be a GOAT candidate due to the 6 Super Bowls with Brady. There are eleven coaches with multiple Super Bowl wins, Andy Reid has one. No question that these two are the current candidates and Belichek will always have the Brady years and if Mahomes doesn’t get hurt running around and Andy stays with him, he may surpass Belichek. Don Shula had 2 SBs and the 17-0 season along with a long winning record. Chuck Noll had 4 SBs, Bill Walsh 3, Bill Parcells, Mike Shanahan, Tom Coughlan, Jimmy Johnson, and Tom Flores all had 2. Several have one. If you notice most of these coaches have multiple SBs with the same QB. I’d throw out there Joe Gibbs who won 3 SBs with 3 different QBs. My top 2: Shula & Gibbs

Ihmir Smith-Marsette signs with the Chiefs. At this point you have to think the Chiefs are just collecting players with hyphenated names

Edwards-Helaire
Smith-Schuster
Valdes-Scantling
Smith-Marsette

Interesting. Thought the WR core looked like it was finally coming together in the 49 game (other than Moore muffing another punt).

This is certainly not why they restructured Kelce's contract, so wondering if there is still a move coming before trade deadline. I think offense is fine, possibly add a DL.

No OBJ. And all this work makes me think he won't land there.

Dumb if true.

The Chiefs need offensive line help. The Chiefs are 27th in the league in pressure % allowed (combination of pressures and total drop backs) as can be seen here https://theathletic.com/3708858/2022/10/22/nfl-pass-protection-rankings/?redirected=1. I think some of the WR struggles (early) had to do with the new guys and Mahomes being on the same page consistently, something they've seemed to have ironed out. Now that's happened, they should be focusing on keeping their QB healthy, creating more holes for the run game, and giving Mahomes more time in a cleaner pocket.

When the Chiefs struggle it usually starts at the line of scrimmage. Either Mahomes is getting tons of pressure and or the defensive line struggles to generate push. While the stats look 'okay', the Chiefs have struggled mightily (at times) along the line when Chris Jones isn't playing well. Want to help your team? I would start there.

The trade for Toney is as much about the future as it is this year. JuJu and Hardman will probably want more money than KC wants to spend. This will give them another low cost, high upside WR for lottery ticket draft picks. And maybe he can punt return in place of Skyy Moore

Where are they going to get OL help right now? Have a feeling that will be addressed again in the offseason. Toney is a good trade IMO. Ju-Ju, Hardman, and Watson are all free agents after this season leaving MVS, Moore, and injured Justyn Ross as the only 3 WR under contract after the year. Toney is a former first rounder who is just 23 and has a lot of upside so while his impact this season may not be huge if he's healthy he could have a big role in 2023 depending on who else is in the WR group next year.

It's crazy to think Moore could get pinched out of a big role so quickly but he just has not looked good so far, especially the costly muffed punts he's had. I hope it's just in his head and he finds a way to break out of the funk as he has talent

He also ran a bad route that led to the INT on the first drive against the 49ers. Certainly not ready to give up on him yet, but he has a lot of improving to do.

They needed to clear some cap space just to pay J S-S his incentive bonuses.

That's not how that works. Incentives are placed into two categories, likely to be earned and not likely to be earned. The first is applied to the cap in the current year and already has been. The second is applied to next year's cap if the player reaches the goals.

KC has around $3-4 million in cap space and Toney would eat up around $750,000 of that.
