NFL: Kansas City Chiefs Thread

Damn, when the Chiefs die they really go all out. RIP to an iconic stadium with insane atmosphere, hello corporate snooze fest stadium with ridiculous prices and no soul.

That's what is frustrating to me how some view old stadiums as obsolete and must be replaced. I get that Arrowhead is one of the 3 oldest stadiums in the NFL with Lambeau and Soldier fields the other 2. Lambeau is going no where and is just as iconic and great atmosphere as Arrowhead. I like Kauffman Stadium too and would hate to see it go but if they want to renovate and keep Arrowhead where it is the Royals probably need to move so they can expand the footprint around Arrowhead.

I'm a Chicago Cubs fan too and Wrigley Field is not new or state of the art but I would rather go watch a baseball game at Wrigley or Fenway for the atmosphere than I would at one of the new stadiums and I have the same feeling about Arrowhead too. Old does not necessarily mean bad when it comes to stadiums IMO. If the thing is structurally unsound or was built in one of those eras where stadiums had no character to them then fine blow it up and build new but IMO Arrowhead is just fine and could be renovated to add some more amenities. I also like the weather factor with outdoor stadiums that you get a bit of a home field advantage when you host a dome team in the Midwest fall and winter weather that are not used to playing in those conditions.

It has nothing to do with the age of the stadium, its all about money streams, and modern stadium have fewer seats and more boxes, and that is where the money is at for the team. Unless it's been changed, a team has to share revenue with the visiting team when they play in your stadium. So this week, Tennessee will get a cut of the revenue from the tickets sold in the seats, but the boxes are exempted from that figure. So they share some revenue with the visiting team, but get to keep all the revenue from the corporate boxes. That figure may have changed in the past couple of years, but that was why all these teams want a new stadium.
The Chiefs have always wanted to host a Super Bowl in KC, the league has told them we will let you host a Super Bowl, but you have to have a dome, for it to occur. No dome, no SB.

Kansas has STAR bonds to offer, which didn't need voter approval, and Missouri just recently passed a poor man's version of this.

I've heard that the Chiefs want their own complex that they wont have the share with the Royals. It would open up more revenue from concerts that they can't have when you have 81 days blocked off for baseball games. Sounds like the Hunt family is split on keeping Arrowhead or building an enclosed stadium. There seems to be agreement in moving all other facilities over to Kansas, in part to escape the 1% KCMO earnings tax. I think the Royals being all over the place with their plans with no real path forward might be mounting the Chiefs to act on something now.

As someone who lives on the Missouri side, I honestly do not care what side of the state line either is on. However, it would be a shame if Arrowhead was no longer where the Chiefs play football. I also get why they want an enclosed stadium.
I hate to see the MO side lose both teams. Other than downtown KC and the P and L there won't be a damn thing on the Missouri side.

The stadiums are literally crumbling. There is absolutely no point in renovating either any more times.

Kaufman Stadium is not good for the Royals. They are a glorified farm team playing there. They need a place where they can build an entertainment district around it to make revenue 365 days a year. The location of the K sucks also. I wanted a downtown ballpark. I'll gladly park a mile from the stadium and walk. Having bars and restaurants along the walk would add to the experience also.

Arrowhead is a fine place to watch a game but it is in dire need of replacement or a total rebuild. Any NFL stadium built in 2010-onward outclasses Arrowhead. I’ll also add that when compared to other MLB stadiums, Kauffman does not show its age nearly as bad as Arrowhead does when you compare it to other NFL stadiums.

I also don’t know anyone outside of KC that thinks of Arrowhead as some icon like Lambeau. I’ve seen that comparison thrown out a ton and it’s just not accurate to anyone not in KC

What happened to the planned move of the Royals to downtown. I always figured that would be the move, thereby freeing up the Truman Sports Complex for the Chiefs to do what they want?
Its a shame that it sounds like they will be moving, but for many people coming down to a game, out by the race track in Kansas would not be any more difficult to reach coming down from Iowa than the current location. Down and over to St. Joe, and then I-29 down to cross over west of the airport.
Again from what I have heard, and I am not sure how accurate it is, the Royals really don't have the money that they try and make it seem like they do to build a new stadium. Downtown stadium would be ideal, but would cost ALOT compared to a suburban site. It seems like as of right now, the OP site would come with the cheapest costs, but no one who resides in those areas wants anything to do with that.

Its not historic like Lambeau but its an awesome venue. Close and right on top of the action. Beats the hell out of having 6 levels of suites and having the upper deck 300 feet off the field. And it's still arguably the best atmosphere in the NFL. Other than being historic I wasn't that impressed with Lambeau Field the one time I was there. Reminds me of a college stadium built in the 40s. Up until the early 90s the Packers used to play a few games a year in Milwaukee.

I went to the big 12 title game in Jerryworld last year. Beautiful stadium but I’d be sad if that’s what arrowhead became.

I mean it sincerely I don’t care what other people think. Stadiums are for the fans of the teams.

You have to look at how you define an Icon, its the third oldest stadium I believe in the league, has hosted many AFC championship games and flies more championship flags than almost any stadium in the league. It's also renowned as one of the loudest if not the loudest stadium in the league. The tail gating outside the stadium the day of the game is legendary as well.

The Chiefs want a dome, this is nothing new, if Missouri will not come up with the money to build it for them, Kansas will, either way they have made it known they will be staying in the area, just maybe on the other side of the river.

Rice officially ruled out for this week. Not that it matters at this point but sucks for my fantasy team that is probably going to be in a tight matchup this week and I also have Lamb battling an illness too.

Missouri governor floated this idea out there but I don't know how practical that would be with an exsisting stadium

I remember back in 2006 when they had an idea of a rolling roof that could be moved from Arrowhead to Kauffman that failed, that was kind of a crazy concept

The rolling roof was in the original diagram for the stadiums, it would somehow been able to move between he stadiums when they needed it. Not sure the technology was available at the time to actually make it a reality and the price was a drawback, so it never happened.

Missouri is going to piss around and let them leave, just like they did with the Rams, only good thing for Chiefs fans its just across the river not 2,000 miles away.

I'm sure they'll just waste it in other ways or give it to other billionaires, but if Missouri chooses to not give this billionaire tax payer money to build their stadium I think that's the first good thing I've heard about Missouri in quite awhile. Also as someone that hates the Chiefs getting them to move out of Arrowhead is kind of a win win.

I think the Hunt family is still worth something like 25 billion or more? Sure they could build a dozen stadiums and have money left over, but that sweet tax money is so enticing.

Funny how Prime keeps advertising their Christmas night Chiefs/Broncos matchup as if it is the biggest game of the year.
