Been locked out of my Twitter account for over a week. Got a new phone and forgot to transfer over my authenticator app settings. Yes, I know it's my fault. I also saved the backup codes they gave me last time, which is supposed to allow you back into your account. No go. Now the morons at Twitter (or X or whatever the hell) respond with their troubleshooting steps, all of which begin with, "Log into your account..." IF I COULD LOG INTO MY ACCOUNT I WOULD NOT BE CONTACTING YOU MORONS.

Sorry, just had to vent. Carry on.

Is the authenticator app something not associated with Twitter?
If you wanted to keep two factor authentication but didn't want to pay for a blue checkmark, you had to sign up for (yes) a third party authenticator app. I use Google Authenticator for Twitter, and a couple of work sites. It works great, except when you get a new phone and forget to transfer the settings directly to your new phone before wiping the old one. Just installing the app on your new phone and signing in doesn't work.

Ah, thank you for the explanation. I have Google Authenticator on my phone but have never used it.
