JTS Lighting Strikes a Nerve

Vikings had a similar issue with their new practice facility. That actually drew neighborhood complaints so they turned some stuff off later at night. Was sort of dumb to have HUGE billboard sized signs all bright at 3 am. They turn some off 11 am to 6 am now.

There is a huge amount of unnecessary lighting. Fly into MSP at night and you'll see hundreds of brightly light and 100% empty business and industrial parking lots. You could light around the bldg for security but you maybe don't need to amp up the whole empty 20 acre parking lot.

I’m sure there are security/insurance reasons for lighting of buildings.

Wow, I just wasted 10 minutes of my life. If anyone believes this then they should really be concerned about NYC, Chicago, Las Vegas, DC, Minneapolis, etc. Until you write a letter to the Mayors and city councils of these cities and denounce what they are doing, your opinions are biased and mean nothing.

Denouncing the leadership in these cities and then u are at least being consistent even though I disagree with you.

I read the first sentence of that article. That was far too much.
It’s not an article, it’s an op-ed from an Ames resident. I am not a model citizen when it comes to conserving energy. People seem to be very critical of the opinion however if in fact a video board is on at 3am it’s legit to question if that is necessary or wasteful. I don’t have a strong opinion either way but it is good some people can see the other side.

You don’t have a strong opinion either way but thought it would be a good idea to start a thread based on a Hawkeye fans take from an obscure opinion article? Lol, ok.

It’s a talking point with a cyclone connections. Is he really a hawk fan or is that just speculation?

I don't really care either way but there is no need for the lights to be on in the middle of the night, minus the bridge.

I have a street light on at the dead end of my street that serves no purpose. I’m emailing the Des Moines Register about it right now. It might be killing birds and bats and stuff.

Just take it out with a pellet gun if it's bothering you.

I've never been to reiman gardens. I hear its beautiful.

If you have time it is very nice, went mid-Sept this last fall and there was still plenty of color and variety. The pumpkin thing looked cool but didn't make it back for that same with the Xmas lights.

There is a ribbon board on the outside of the stadium at the north end and it was on when I drove past at 9am yesterday.

Isn't there advertising on that though, at least during FB season there is I believe.

Leave the bridge lit up or the student will be out there fornicating on it. I'm guessing some have anyway.

hmmm good idea. Back in my day we went to the lookout tower in that park up by Somerset.

Unfortunately it's been torn down now.
