That’s good to hear. I’ve been wanting to display my virtue signaling by waving to some sick kids. Hopefully they’ll put a big window by the waiting room.
You really disrespecting the greatest TRADITION in Sport like that? Shame.

not enough ad space
Actually 157 x 36 is much wider than 16:9 aspect ratio so you can bet that the outside of the board will be all ads all the time. They may have a way of going full screen for a scoring replay or the like, but you can bet that it will be running ads pretty much constantly. A 36 foot tall board at 16:9 aspect ratio would be only 64' wide. The 79' wide south board will be closer to 16:9 but still 15' wider.

The field itself is only 160' wide so that north board is still pretty damned wide.

I usually keep waving for a few plays after they come back just to be safe. I don't need to be shamed with my picture on the internet.

I got into it with a fan at the last game because I always play "who let the dogs out" on my phone while I wave and he kept yelling **** like "sit down" and "put your pants back on." I tried to explain that I am honoring the sick animals and I also spin around in a helicopter motion because we are the Cyclones (duh) and he was babbling **** like "there are kids around here." Finally had to get security involved.
I think I just figured out what DeJean was doing before that punt return...

Isn't the next step to install an upper deck over Sukup (once demand matches supply)? I thought the infrastructure was designed to support an upper deck there.
That’s my dream. The SEZ looks incomplete between the upper decks. I’m sure it’s expensive, but I don’t think it’d be too difficult to dismantle the video board and connect the upper decks. That’d probably bring our capacity to around 70,000 and make our stadium the most imposing in the Big 12. There was a time not long ago when bowling the SEZ seemed impractical, so I wouldn’t completely rule out further expansion. Especially if our football program can find some consistent success in the post season. Here’s what I’d do if I were Pharaoh:

1. Connect the SEZ upper deck and fill that end of the stadium with the band, student section, and cheer squad all in one place.

2. Convert the NEZ band stand into a party patio, VIP guest area, and handicap accessible seating.

3. Replace west lower bowl benches with club seating spelling out ISU with color coded chairs.

4. Completely overhaul the west concourse with an all-in-one press tower, concessions, and suites complex running from goal line to goal line.

5. Demand the football team wear a throwback themed uniform every homecoming: Jack Trice, Dirty Thirty, Earle Bruce, Troy Davis, etc.

Make it so. :campbell:

I suspect the only time there won't be ads up to some extent is during the intro video(s) and graphics used momentarily for things like TDs or other big plays.

If we're speaking in dream scenarios I still think Jacobsen and the collosus of Rhoads seem kinda tacked on (recent renovations make it much better) so I'd replace Jacobsen with a more integrated NEZ with seating and offices for AD or whatever with additional seating there for the band and fans and cover the walkways the players take into the field. Ideally the hills would go away imo but people like them so they can stay.
And add sun shades around the stadium.

Maybe I misunderstood previously, but I thought they had announced originally that both were to be full length? I don't understand why they wouldn't just do both the same. (Yes, I know its cheaper this way, but come on)
They had it full size in the bid specs for both north and south end zones. Guessing Pollard went the cheap route to save a little money. Very disappointing to hear this as our stadium lacks most stadiums in a lot of other areas and 2 large video boards could have enhanced the game day experience and compensated for some of the things we don't have. It's only slightly better resolution too so not sure why they are even bothering with it if money is that big of an issue (which is what I'm guessing Pollard will say). Sorry North end seaters and hillside folks!

157' is really wide, the scoreboard at Jerry World is 160' wide (that one is exactly twice as tall).

I'm curious if they will now use the full height for the main video section and have the time, score, and stats on the sides with ads outside of that.

The crazy thing is Jerry's jumbotron has become kind of "average" in the NFL with new construction. Without even including the stadiums with ring videoboards (SoFi and Mercedes Benz), here are the NFL stadium jumbotrons longer than Jerry World:

Allegiant (Vegas): 345' x 80'
Gillette (New England): 370' x 60'
Everbank (Duuuuuuval): 362' x 60'
Mile High (Denver): 225' x 75'
NRG (Houston): 277' x 52'
Superdome (NOLA): 233' x 38'
Jerry World (Arlington): 160' x 72'

There's a handful of MLB with larger screens, too, not to mention NASCAR tracks.

I remember being very surprised at how short that screen's time at the top was.

I don't know about the others but the largest screen at Allegiant is about 245' by 50' (12,250 sq ft).

Oh, you know what, that's probably the video board outside of the stadium. Good catch.

Did some quick digging and the remainder of these are internal jumbotrons.

Guys will always compare and worry about how big and long their things are. Size does matter.

Fun fact, at 157x36 feet, this would give us the 82nd largest video screen in the world by square footage, right behind the Fukuoka PayPay Dome in Japan.
And 11th biggest at a stadium used primarily for CFB.

1. Jordan-Hare (Auburn) - 190' x 57'
2. Ross-Ade (Purdue) - 150' x 56'
3. Michigan Stadium - 152' x 55'
4. Oklahoma Memorial Stadium - 167' x 47'
5. Rice-Eccles (Utah) - 122' x 64'
6. Doak Campbell (FSU) - 120' x 56'
7. LaVell Edwards (BYU) - 131' x 48'
8. Razorback Stadium - 166' x 38'
9. Boone Pickens (OSU) - 110' x 56'
10. LA Coliseum (USC) - 150' x 40'
11. Jack Trice Stadium - 157' x 36'

Not too shabby.

*Edited to add in Boone Pickens

That's the same size the current SEZ board is, so just a replacement and improvement in resolution. Was hoping this would go full width as well
Very disappointed with this latest announcement. I followed the bidding process last fall when they put out the RFP for new video boards around campus, including Jack Trice. The bid that was awarded including expanded full-width (of the existing structure) boards in both the south and north endzones with resolutions of 10 mm. This latest release shows they cut the resolution back and cut out expanding the south board. I love a lot of what Jamie Pollard has done but sometimes he is just cheap as ****. This is a 10-year investment, do it right!

JP has an unfunded, annual $22MM bill coming due. This isn’t about being cheap, this is about making the numbers work in the ever-evolving new world order of CFB.

I keep seeing posters wanting to bowl in the north end and increase seating. My question is can we fill all those seats? We are not filling all of them now so where are all these extra fans coming from. Let's see how we do the rest of this season because I have yet to see it full so far.
Exactly. Before we even think about adding more seating for us plebes we need to reach a point where we're regularly selling out. Hell, I'd even go so far as to say selling out via season ticket sales should be prerequisite.

I know it's been discussed ad nauseum, but rather than maximizing tickets sold, I strongly believe we need to focus on maximizing revenue per ticket sold. Focus on amenities and creature comforts and gradually offer more and more variants of "premium" seating and cut down on the less profitable standard seats currently available.

spot on
i do wonder if more "premium gameday experience" seats are coming to JTS even if it comes at expense (?) of overall seating capacity
