Appears to be. It's most likely topsoil for the grass on the hillsides. Looks awfully dark compared to the rest of the fill they've brought in for the hillside (although that could just be the lighting).
It does appear especially dark and rich. All the better to grow lush green grass for the tushes of future clone fans.
That's not actually how they apply fert, is it? Photo op, or somehow more effective than some tow-behind?
So...the heavy crane isn’t gone because there are still a couple of the precast slabs to lift into place?
This map would suggest that the west hill is not as big as the east hill because it appears the previous handicapped ramp was not changed. Also no trapezoidal cutout on the west hill is shown for an uncovered tunnel extension. Anticipation and the unknown is killing us!
It also doesn't show the stairs up to Gate 2. I wouldn't put a whole lot of stock into this map as it pertains to the finishing touches of this project.
I'm guessing the soil is from the compost facility and is a mix of top soil and compost. I know they've used that in the past for projects and is very dark like that.
Now that the tunnel wall forms are up, any ideas how they’ll get the concrete in for the pour? They brought in a pumper truck on the west side of the Jake to pour the tunnel floor. But that way is now blocked by walkway forms and support scaffolding. I see four options:
- Wait until walkway is poured, cured and supports removed and use pumper truck.
- Bring cement trucks up the hill by the concourse (scary).
- Bring cement trucks around east side of the Jake (if the walkway is done on that side).
- Use the two cranes to shuttle a concrete bucket like they did with the wall forms.
Looks like it. They had a a couple folks working on that area earlier today. The interior lights were also on this morning. It's a nice looking building.
I think that whatever route they choose, they do it this afternoon, with the weekend for the concrete to set.
Concrete doesn't fully cure for 4 weeks and doing past commercial construction even with the forms and supports the concrete will only have foot traffic unless an engineer signs off on it.
I’ll take your word for that. But so far, they’ve been pouring retaining walls on Fridays, and taking the forms off on Mondays. That’s all I was referring to.
Plus, I’m pretty sure the retaining walls they’ve already poured didn’t wait four weeks before supporting the weight of all that soil.
Yes, I’m sure that’s a different type of pressure—but it’s retaining walls we’re talking about here in the first place, right?
Hey, what's with all the styrofoam panels they are placing on the ground? Sorry if this is a stupid question.
Most likely reason mentioned earlier: 'raise' the frost line.

I was thinking the same thing that they will pour the walls today and start to backfill around them next week while also setting the lid to the tunnel to extend out to the full wall.
