Sorry if already asked but what is the purpose of that "styrofoam" they are placing and those spacers? Isn't that going to be filled over with soil? Thx.

This post was a few pages ago.

Most likely. Just a light weight replacement for fill dirt. Helps to put less stress on the wall. Also won't settle so hopefully the walkway doesn't crack or become as uneven.

The frost heave on 15' of fill underneath a walkway and against a North facing wall would be incredible if allowed to happen.

I wondered that too, but when you think about it, the walkway would almost be guaranteed to crack due to frost and possibly settling with that much fill. Not to mention, you don't have to worry about drainage when there's going to be pavement on top of it.

Two more cameras, one on each corner of the "wing" alongside the hill. Let the viewer choose which one to watch. Could really get a much better view of the work. There's still time!

Another foam question. Wouldn't it be better to spray foam into that area. I’d think it would cover better and be faster? Maybe cost or mess?

Not sure but the dude on the bobcat moving the foam is quite talented. Appears to be a blind ride back up. That must be fun. View attachment 84712
If each Styrofoam block is 4 X 4 X 8 feet, 3 of them would have a volume of 14 cubic yards. A dump truck can carry about 14 cubic yards of dirt. So that little bobcat is hauling the equivalent of a dump truck load of fill dirt.

That is one “huge” pile of dirt in front of the big yellow crane! I assume that will be used for top fill on the northwest hillside?
