JTS Improvements - Want More

Another step done. Starting to see trees, too.

Guess we’ll see what short term landscaping they do after they pull the forms. I’d expect any long term “beautification”, ala over by Reiman Gardens, to be down the line.

When there’s an income flow from CyTown. Or whenever a donor kicks in.

Does that tree even have a chance to take root?
The one in the center, over the culvert?

I believe there’s around 3 feet of soil there. It’s just going to be stunted when the other two get older.

I thought the three were a bit close together, depending on type, anyway.

The trees are continuing down the street. Seem to be working north to south.

Jamie said on the coach's show this past Tuesday that the hold-up on putting a shovel in the ground for Cytown is on the shoulders of the Board of Regents. He is confident they will receive the signatures needed for the project but couldn't give a specific date. I believe Goldenrod is still on a two-year timeline to have everything built.

I may have missed it in this forum or somewhere else, but what is the status of Cy Town. I was in Ames over the summer for the first time in over a decade and I was hoping to see more completed by the stadium. I understand these projects take a massive amount of work and time, but even when I google Cy Town updates, nothing is coming up. What is the status (i.e. when building will start, completion date, etc...)

There's supposed to be an announcement this month with more details, I assume once the regents approve. I assume info on the other tenants and renderings I hope.

I am assuming that the MacFarland section is already approved, and will proceed after the season.

As I understand it, McFarland may start yet this fall. The remainder, if approved by the Board of Regents will start next year with completion scheduled for two years after that. And this would include a hotel and convention space in the area between Hilton and Stevens.

Pollard in a recent podcast reminded the James Hilton started talking about the Iowa State Center in 1954 and the first building did not start construction until about 1965. It's only been about two years they have talked about CyTown.

As with any construction project the first phase is infrastructure that you will never see.

Maybe I’m reading in too much, but it kinda sounds like that’s a two phase plan, with the CyToen area completing in relatively short order, and the hotel/convention center completing in year two.

Or maybe all of the CyTown amenities, like the stage and sculpture being completed year two?

Guess we’ll find out in a couple of weeks.

From what I've heard, Goldenrod wants to build everything at once, including the hotel.

See, here’s what I’m getting at.

CyTown itself, going by the renderings, is eight buildings—including MacFarland.

I’m not sure I see them having seven—or even five—different crews building them simultaneously.

And if built sequentially, I can’t see them letting the first completed building stand empty and idle until the last is done. Investors like revenue streams.

Especially so once MacFarland will be sitting there operating even before they start.

So, one, or some, or half(?) could be open long before the project is completed.

Like maybe, starting with the west half McFarland is on. Am I making sense?

This is random but noticed that Kansas new stadium won't have a press box... for all those press box obsessed people in this thread.

I really like the design of the lights on this. Should be a pretty stadium, prettier than the play on the field for sure. Not sure why they wouldn't enclose the whole thing though, I guess to preserve the view of the empty hill?
