Johnny Orr at his best

I had the opportunity to play golf with Johnny when I was 9 or 10 years old. I learned many new words that day and never laughed so hard in my life.

He is probably the reason I love ISU!

Did your dad tell you don't tell mom most of this.:)

* I love the picture of Fred “cheersing” to Johnny with a capture of something similar to “That was for you Coach” after a victory. Perhaps after the Michigan game?

*Q: what was the exact quote he said about “getting 3 of the best in state kids, 1 didn’t qualify and the other went to Iowa; which is the same.”?

I love the memories of growing up and watching ISU MBB w Orr!!

Man that 80s-90s Big8 coaching group were a bunch of colorful characters. Those were some great games. There are still a few fun ones around The pirate in FB, Huggy in BB, but the real speak your mind folks have been mainly replaced by coach speak. Oh well I guess times change.

People might disagree, and that's fine.

But my opinion is, we had nothing when Johnny came, nothing. He single handily saved Iowa state athletics. All the stuff we have now, football, basketball, whatever...none of it would have been possible without Johnny. He gave the entire university an identity and a personality that we never had, and that still carries over today.

Great guy too, amazing personality.

JO was the most sarcastic, tell-the-truth guy I have ever met at that level of a profession. He was beautiful.

We got rained out at a QC Cyclone Club golf outing. My mom and wife were the only "girls" there. Time to waste at the clubhouse.

"Hey,....Midgey and Lisa,....I apologize in advance if I say anything that might offend you," JO.

He did and they loved it. Along with everybody else. B^)

@VeloClone has it in his signature block

"There are five real good recruits in the state. We got three of them. One couldn't get into school, and the other went to (the University of) Iowa...which is about the same thing." - Coach Johnny Orr
