JJeff is a !st rounder!!!!!

Can someone explain to me why they would draft him and then trade him immediately? Can they not just trade the pick? I don't know the NBA.
They didn’t draft and trade immediately. That pick was part of the Julius Randle trade from yesterday. Brooklyn was technically making the pick.

However, in other instances when teams do draft someone and trade them immediately: the other team who is trading tells the team who to draft, and then the draft rights for that player get traded.

Like in the 2024 draft: Spurs and Wolves are talking about the Wolves wanting the Spurs’ #8 pick. Spurs don’t really need the #8 pick since they got the guy they wanted at #4 (Stephon Castle). Spurs like the Wolves offer and the Spurs ask who the Wolves want in the draft. Wolves wanted Dillingham. Spurs select Dillingham and then he gets immediately traded.

Great spot for JJeff to carve out playing time. He’s not going to the Lakers to ride the bench. The fact that nets took him where they did says that other teams were also gearing up to pull the trigger.

I think JJeff is going to do well in the NBA. He's smart, he'll work hard, and he's a playmaking forward. I'm not saying he'll be an all-star or anything, but I wouldn't be shocked at all if he starts a lot of his career.
I was kinda thinking he would be a solid backup and occasional starter, but I don't watch much NBA so I'm not too sure how his game translates at that level.

I don't know either, but if you are able to tell with any certainty how well a player will do in the NBA you can make a lot of money doing it.

I think the NBA is all about opportunity. Hopefully the Nets value his unique skill set and they will put him in positions that will allow him to use those skills to succeed. If he gets playing time and can show his value, he will have a great career. If they try to force him to be something he isn’t, it makes it hard to do well and get playing time. Georges has made a career by featuring his unique skills.
