More information on what happens at a NIL conference would be interesting.
There was one at our motel near FiServ in Milwaukee the weekend of the first round. I assume there's actual discussion, but I'd guess a main purpose is a place where player agents and representatives can meet with potential suitors without it being on campus and on the record.

I thought the participants all looked very young when i surveyed the room, between 20 and 30. College NIL representation is probably the ground floor in the sports agency business, given how many non-premiere players go into the portal every year now.

Pretty sure a union might actually hurt the players at this point. It's the wild west and they are getting whatever they want. If they have to deal with a union, that gives the NCAA and Universities rights to negotiate rules with it. Which could hurt the players.
SOME are getting what they want. Most aren't getting much at all. This may be the only year where late packing off P4 players is a thing, given the court settlement taking effect this summer. The next phases will happen as we see how that part plays out and how teams try to get around the ruling.

I endorse and support that if people can't contribute that is ok. I have seen it on here for years with people telling people why they don't or shouldn't contribute. Create a thread for this topic.
You want me to create a thread where I tell everyone why I can't afford to donate to buying players for my favorite college sports program? I'll get right on that.

Ya know, I have been to the ER three times in the last two weeks and been stressed like crazy, but this thread has cheered me up big time. Or maybe it's the meds they got me on. Or a combination of both.

Never seen a thread that is all over the place the way that this one is. A lot of funny comments, a lot of very dumb comments, people losing their minds over a rumor, people attacking others (at a higher level that usually), and a few people who have been civil and making sense. Anarchy!! I love it.

It has an impact, just not a positive one

I don't believe just because there is a system you have to play the game if the system is a bad one. It would be better long term if the system fell apart.

Fine to have that opinion but it hurts Iowa State for people to be actively telling others not to donate to WeWill. I don’t think anyone likes this system but it’s the system we have and if you want ISU to be as successful as possible, donating to WeWill is a huge help. I don’t see how that’s hard to understand. Just don’t donate if it’s not for you.

I think Duke got extremely lucky with the class they brought in this season. They had some game changers on that team. The next years team they have has a bunch of good players on it, just not the freshman next level type players. I have watched the Boozer kids play and they are legit good players, they are not Cooper Flagg though. If Duke keeps recruiting this way I think they drop down to a normal top 10 team instead of a top 4 team.
What Scheyer did is reminiscent of Coach K 10-20 years ago. He's a bright young coach and Duke will be a Final4 contender most years because they can build a roster with McD AA's and fill needs with portal guys.

IMO Scheyer's the real deal as a coach.

It's absolutely capitalism. There's a market for these athletes. The NCAA has been trying and continues to try to suppress it via their own policies, but to quote Jeff Goldblum, "Life...ahhh...finds a way."
Quality D1 athletes are a scarcity, and school fan bases are willing to pay big bucks for them. Regardless of the avenue that the money takes to get from A to B, the free market is absolutely playing out.
Yep gotta remember the schools created this system. And I'm not talking ancient history. I am talking about since NIL became legal.

What was envisioned was tier of elite players getting national sponsorship deals and most getting local Ponchero's type deals. But not-a-small-group of AD's, Boosters and University Presidents transformed into pay-for-play under the guise of NIL. And every other P4/5 school jumped on board over the last couple years to stay competitive/relevant.

I don't hear many University Presidents and AD's taking a stand. So as a fan you either: embrace it, leave it or be indifferent. No reason to feel anger.

A proposal for the Moderators, anyone disparaging a players family should have a permanent ban from CF. Anyone trying to contact a players family should have a permanent ban
Hey,hey, let's not get carried away it was quite entertaining when that wrestlers dad came on to CF and talked smack. (PG3?)
Those were some fun threads

That is just a work around. Call it whatever you want. The players do give back to the communities and surrounding areas they live in. Players deserve to be paid just like the rest of adults and they have been getting screwed for decades.
Yeah it really sucked getting a free degree, room and board, tutoring, athletic training etc...
