To to clear, was just sharing the news in the first post. Wasn't throwing Jackson under the bus.

Made a few trips to Boone in the '70's to bail house mates out. Challenge sometimes to raise that kind of money on a Sunday.

Yes. I'm no saint and have driven when I shouldn't have in the past like a ton of people on this board. Driving drunk is one of the worst things a person can do regardless of how confident they are that everything's fine
I only drove drunk once. Was 19 or 20 at the time and I outsmarted a cop and got very very lucky to get away. Never drove drunk again.

Good for you. Just a bit surprised that a number of posters within this thread, didn't drink n drive during college. Assuming, pre MAD?
Given my 80's tenure? One could be just shy of passed out, and nobody suggested, "take his-her keys, give him/her a ride home."
Just sayin, minus anything resembling approving.

Jackson made a poor decision and will have to pay the consequences. Hopefully he learns from it.

I don't care for people trying to diminish what he did because "everybody has done it" when they really mean they themselves did it. There's no excuse for drunk driving, especially with the resources we have today.

We are "ethically, etc..." better than a whole lotta teams.
If I recall right, Scates and a couple of other's, made the news for shooting bb guns, several years ago Whatever....
Should I mention Kirby's Georgia ********?
We be pretty damn-Campbell-clean.
Nate Oats at 'Bama? Allowing a player to stay on the team and keep playing, and defending him, when he's basically an accessory to a murder?

There's a lot of terrible player and coach behavior out there.

Google Jalen Carter (Georgia).
Piece of ****, and responsible for a wreckless driving-related death.
Making serious bank with the Eagles, minus anything resembling repercussions.
Not excusing Jackson...but....

I don't know how anyone can pass too much judgement when we know basically nothing about what happened. No one knows how impaired he was or even what he took/drank. It could be nowhere near as bad or way worse than what anyone is assuming.

For drinking? No.

For driving in a small city that has plenty of non driving travel options? Yes. Good dude, bad choice and I hope things get straightened out for him.
In the age of Uber, there is no excuse for drunk driving. Don't even need designated drivers any more.

It's shocking how hard it is to find a ride home in Ames around bar time. Finding one of the few Ubers has been damn near impossible for me in the past after 1 AM, taxis really don't exist anymore (and don't run 24/7 now anyways), and bus routes are super limited that time of day. Not to excuse him, but it is absolutely a struggle to get around in Ames late night.

I grew up in an era that offered, "one for the road." Yep.
Who knows the "universe" that DJ grew

Unfortunately, that era is still in full swing across a lot of this country. "One for the road," "road beers," "truck coolers," and "travel drinks" are still very much a thing. And a lot of people I know from those areas have a DUI but continue to drive with a cold one in the console. I don't think people are aware of how common this is, especially where Ubers & Lyfts aren't always reliable, like Ames.

Was a mistake. Hopefully the young man learns from it, and agree, there is no need to try to crush him or make him out to be some bad person. It was a mistake, we all make them. Its one that can have big consequences ie drunk driving accidents so thankfully for him, there was not an accident and hopefuly it is just a learning experience as we all have them going through life

We saw two people doing field sobriety test Friday on the way to Arlington. They did not have Iowa plates, one was at 10:30 am. Unfortunately it still happens a lot.
