Slow day at work so I was reading Jaydin Eierman's wiki page. Impressive collegiate career redshirting as true freshman and then going 5-4-3-2 at Nationals getting beat by Heil-Diakomihalis-Diakomihalis-Lee. He also took an Olympic last year. To date his record is 103-15.

My issue is this... due to the COVID-19 Eierman confirmed he will come back in 2021–2022 as a 25 year old, sixth-year senior.

I believe that if you have wrestled at 4 national tourney's you should be done. That's BS.

Such an incredibly short sighted rule... but guess thats what was agreed upon - can't hold it against the kid for following.

Thought it was originally to protect those that played a shortened football season - but given all sports have gone off relatively normally - this should have been pulled back.

I like the rule since it gives David a chance to be a 4 timer. If the rule wasn’t in place, David at most could have been a 3 timer (both AA/champ). Also allows Spencer Lee to go for 4 and become Iowa’s first 4 time champ

My rule is if you had the chance to qualify and wrestle at 4 national championships you are done.

There will be a handful of 7-year guys, once you combine a regular redshirt year, 1 or 2 Olympic redshirt years, the COVID year, and any injury/medical hardship season.

Eierman is one of them.
2016: Redshirt
2017: Freshman
2018: Sophomore
2019: Junior
2020: Olympic redshirt
2021: Senior
2022: COVID senior

Micic from Michigan could theoretically be an 8-year guy.

2015 Redshirt (NW)
2016 Olympic Redshirt

2017 Freshman
2018 Sophomore
2019 Junior
2020 Olympic
2021 Olympic?

2022 Senior?

Yes... but it doesn't mean it's a good rule.

I get that but to single out guys who have had enough success to make it to 4 NCAAs and not guys who haven't doesn't make a lot of sense to me. If a kid has been good enough to make it there 4 times he shouldn't get a 5th chance due to Covid, but if a kid hasn't been good enough to make 4 NCAAs, he should get a 5th year from Covid?

What would've made the most sense is to give the seniors from last year the extra Covid year. They're the ones who got robbed.

I was thinking about Micic the other day. I remember him getting beat by Nathan Boston at the Harold Nichols his redshirt freshman year, which was in the fall of 2014.

Think we were all pretty fired up about Boston as our future at 125 at that time, which feels like a lifetime and a half ago.
