Jaquan Amos Commits!!!

The Honey Badger is a Safety, although if you ask him his position is “football player”. These are stats of where he lined up this year, and he was used like this before the Chiefs as well. But overall he’s still a Safety. But if Amos is like this, he’d probably be a good Star position. Also teams just use safeties different ways. I’m sure CMC/Heacock can fit him in somewhere.

“Mathieu has been all over the field this season. Snaps played by alignment, via @NextGenStats:
* Safety: 508
* Slot CB: 303
* Outside LB: 115
* Edge: 48
* Inside LB: 43
* Left CB: 11
* Right CB: 5
* Interior DL: 3 (standing-up)

Such a movable chess piece.”
Ok, my point was he's not really a FS.

I will tell you (and this is totally my opinion), I don't care much for transfer players.
The status quo has flipped from believing that transfers are broken parts to being saviors of the program. I think they land somewhere in the middle and it really depends on why they are leaving.
For instance, Bickham was terrible. Unplayable in my book. Evrett Edwards was ok, but wouldn't sniff the field now.
In Amos's case, I think he will be solid. I'm guessing the staff thinks so, too or they wouldn't have taken him.

Other side of the ball, but give me a Marchie Murdock or LaMichael Pettway any day. Those guys made our team better and sure seemed like great teammates.

You realize it’s common for safeties to move up right? Different teams run different schemes and use positions differently.

When you were watching the highlights, maybe it was common for him to creep up and make plays because the offense was confused.

Brian Bobeck was excellent as well. We have had general success with grad transfers when they make it to campus. The main issue is only about half of them seem to make it to campus. That includes the DB from UNC last year.

Pull the kids twitter and watch the highlights he posted. He's not a FS.

I just looked, and it appeared he lined up at both safety positions, or at least covers ground quickly because he was all over the field. Were you just confused by him blitzing and coming up quickly to make a play? I didn’t see anything that made me think he isn’t a safety.

I never said he wasn't a Safety. I said he isn't a free Safety. I believe you are the one that's confused. Did you even once see him play CF? No.

posted a video of a teammate. Not Amos.

@JCloned
If this is true, please remove it or explain why you posted it. I think lots of people reading this thread still think it is about our commit.

Just realized we lost a jaquan and gained one
Dude- I just had the same thought! The last time we had a Jaquan on our roster, he turned out to be a pretty solid football player- I hope this guy is just as electric.

I cannot even describe how stoked I am for this football season. Plus, I can’t wait to be in the stands and personally watch the hawk fans sulk as they walk out of the Jack in the third quarter while muttering how they really don’t care about the Iowa State game. CANNOT WAIT!!

is this kid really nfl talent???? Tough to tell from my standpoint watching that highlight video posted above. Their team didn’t play anyone with a pulse. Obviously there were some good teams after him though.
Exact reason he’s coming back for another season to a p5 school

Id assume at the very least insurance if the younger players don't develop. If he truly received a 7th round draft grade though you'd think he'd be in a good spot to win that job. Hopefully we will hear more insider info in regards to expectations and what kind of player he is.
Honestly, I think he'll play more corner. I know the staff really likes Chambers and McDonald. Not to mention, Freyler has great size and speed and hits like a truck. Im kinda obsessed with the idea of huge safety's. I know size isn't everything but I think it's intimidating to opposing recievers.

Lol the depth behind them will get experience. We don’t just play 22 total guys.

Yeah I get that. But it’s also possible that the 22 team will have an almost historical lack of returning starters. Like 3 on offense and 1 on defense. That’s a recipe for 4-8/5-7, which I’m totally on board with if it means a conference title this year. But, it sure has a feeling of pushing all our chips in the middle of the table. Every loss next year is going to be magnified, as it is going to be viewed as our one shot at glory.

Naw, good teams reload because the backups compete against some of the best players in practice. Our Oline will have four returners alone I believe so not sure whwere you got 3. Also, we sub in a lot of players and with our talent should have a handful of games where we will get the backups meaningful snaps.

It’s very common for players to be good even if they didn’t start the year before.

One thing I’m not worried about right now is next year being our one shot at glory.

You are absolutely right. 2022 could be a rebuild year. Nothing wrong with that even if we don’t win a conference title this year. As long as we keep our coach, we’ll be fine. And if he doesn’t go anywhere after next year, he’s probably around for a while.
