Recruiting JUCOs is always different as recruits have more varied backgrounds, and I think it was you that pointed it out, or maybe someone else here, of Covid possibly having an effect. Throw in NIL, conference and coaching changes, the portal, and there is a lot going on. From that Nonpareil article (that I also linked to in the second post of this thread), it also looks like IW played two football seasons in 2021:

My biggest uncertainty was that I didn’t see his name listed in the first couple of posts of the main recruiting thread, where Nate keeps pretty complete lists of offers, PWO offers, commitments, and so on, though not always completely up to date:

Yeah, they played Spring and Fall 2021. So guys that got on campus there in summer ‘20 had fall camp/practice, then Spring season. A kid like Matt Byrnes at TE moved on to Houston after Spring with 4 years available. All these guys are 4 years of clock with 3 seasons available. A lot with no real offers compared to the past. Indiana State, Tennessee Martin, SEMO, Central Arkansas are pulling quite a bit form IW. The center Nelson went FBS to LA Tech. But compared to guys like Winfrey, Coe and others ending up P5 out of there in prior years, guys are getting looked over with all the portal traffic.

We were talking to Byrnes early, then Kolar, Allen stay and he takes the flight to Houston. 6’6” and athletic and good blocking too, would’ve been a good get from Western for sure.

JuCo football took a huge hit with the spring season, the COVID year for D-1 guys, and the portal. There are a lot of FCS teams that landed these guys as a result
It’s been great for the partial qualifiers there, they basically can end up with 3 years someplace where historically with the two-year requirement they had a short D1 window. But, to your point many are ending up FCS

Can't those fcs guys turn around and join a fbs team without sitting out too

Yep. They can hit the portal and play immediately. Those that show well at the FCS stops will get the chances as well. Really, this all hurts the high school kids that would be picking up late offers and that are on the fringe. Those guys have to take the D2 route or juco and bet on themselves

So after all the speculation, it turns out that Jacob Ellis is a preferred walk on, or PWO.

The Rival’s commitment list that I linked in a post above is incorrect, I believe, since that is intended for scholarship offers. I don’t believe they track or list PWOs there.

@NATEizKING has added him to the lists here at CF:

PWO Commits:
QB Nate Glantz (JC): 1/16/22; 1/7/22; 1/14/22
OL Easton Eledge: 12/1/22; 10/3/21 Underwood, IA - 6'3" 295lb.
LB Caden Kock: 11/22/21; 6/14/21; 6/14/21 Carroll, IA - 5'11" 200lb.
LB Jacob Ellis (JC): 1/16/22 Granite Bay, CA/Iowa Western CC - 6'1" 215lb.
LB John Klosterman: 1/23/22; 1/18/22 Iowa City, IA - 6'0" 210lb.
S Eddie Lemos: 1/21/22; 6/9/21; 6/9/21; 12/3/21 Loveland, CO - 5'10" 175lb.
LS Drake Knobloch: 10/23/21; 10/2/21; 6/1/21; 9/4/21; 10/2/21

It has been reported he is a scholarship player. In this case maybe Nate is wrong? He might not be I guess. Idk.

I have no idea. I figured it could be premium info but no reason it has to be now.

When I first checked by searching his name and Rivals, I did the same with “Nate Glantz Rivals” and noticed how they are not reported the same there. At the time that further led me to believe Ellis’s is more likely scholarship.
