Jackson Kiss changes commitment to UNLV

It seems to me that your unreasonable definition of "early" is why the grapes are soured, huh. That seems like a problem from someone claiming to be the expert here, asking if the rest of us are "new to college basketball".

That's weird. Don't be weird.

You’re really struggling with this. Not a big deal, but goodness man.

The only thing unreasonable is thinking that it needs to be during practice for it to not be early

Nothing sour about it. A good move for both sides imo. But not early.

Welcome to CBB, by the way. You’ll love it

What do you define as "early" then? I'm lost here. Kiss hasn't gotten onto campus, hasn't gotten to a summer workout or practice, like... it's such an odd thing to get bent about. This move is early with respect to the CBB calendar. Like, objectively it is. The team has plenty of opportunity to adjust and replace if necessary.

I think the general point being made is that the move isn't a detriment to the team outlook, with timing being one component of that. Again, stretching it so far is very weird. Do you just need the last word about it, or what?

I don't know Milan at all but on the outside he seems to be a pretty humble and loyal person. Last year JJ had many offers for more money and stayed with us because he believed in TJ. TJ is the new "Coach K" of college basketball I could be wrong, but as long as there is a spot for Milan and he wants to come back, money is down on his list.
I agree. I don't think Milan coming back would require "matching" another offer. There is value in familiarity, knowing the system, knowing the staff and he might truly love Iowa State to the point that JJ type money here is equal to 4-5MM somewhere else. Plus, winning matters and frankly, a couple of Milan's rumored suitors haven't exactly shown they can spend a crap ton of money and get the desired results.

I have no inside knowledge, but it just feels like TJ has a couple of people that will step up if needed. They won't just dump 20 million in, and I don't think TJ would even want that. I firmly believe that he takes immense pride in doing way more with less. It just seems like he has a "Mr. Wonderful" or two that will take a relatively small amount of cash and dump it like gasoline on a fire. If 3MM is what it would take to bring Milan back, I think there is someone or a couple of someones that would make that happen.

I agree with the posters that think this has nothing to do Milan, and everything to do with Kiss making a smart decision to get playing time right away. If that frees up a roster spot to get a 5-for-5 player or another 2027 commit, that's just gravy. I don't think they'd bring in another transfer rotation player at this point, the rotation is already deeper than we've ever seen as-is.

And is there any suspicion with TJ's links to UNLV that once Kiss plays he may prove worthy of a portal payday...in Hilton?

Not sure where this idea that TJ and UNLV are all warm and fuzzy is coming from. There's literally no connection there other than ex-employee of the University.

If this was a 'plan', USD or UNI would be 1000x more likely. Kid just made a different decision.
Good point, it may be Kiss's connection, to TJ like Gilbert's, which in the end will bring him to Ames.

I just find it interesting that, if he and TJ had a mutual decision to part ways, UNLV would offer him and he'd commit right away, without a plan already in place for him there. It's not like UNLV offered him months ago and he reconsidered his commitment to ISU and asked out of his NLI to go there.

Options are pretty limited out there at this point. There aren't a ton of roster spots left and most of them are waiting out older guys.

Probably just a coincidence that UNLV happened to be the one with a spot.

We only get any player for a year, and good chance Milan will have a 5th year if he wants it.

In the NBA, what team spends most of their cap on a shooter that doesn’t handle the ball?
I was saying why would we not spend money on him when it’s only 1 year, we have the money I’d assume

I think of it more like a JJ situation optimistically. We all know he wanted to come here initially but there wasn’t room so he developed and came later. Not saying that’s what’s going to happen but we just saw something like this play out.

I agree, though I don't think TJ necessarily wants to do more with less as much as he wants players that value winning and team and culture more than a paycheck.

Milan is coming back!!!

That's the first thing that came to mind, but it may be more about playing time with the bigs on our current roster, incoming recruits, and transfers. Or, Otz may have yet another transfer stud he prefers.

Too bad, I think he's going to be a very good player.
Too bad, I liked the kid's upside. But who knows, he might get a lot more minutes at UNLV, really hone his craft there and transfer to ISU in a few years for more $$$

This was my thought too - with the timing of it and with TJ's connections to UNLV (the freshman and transfers coming to campus in a couple weeks and with NBA entries needing to decide if they're for sure staying in the draft or going back to college in a couple weeks).

The insanely optimistic/over caffeinated part of me thought for a hot second "Milan recently claimed he hasn't talked to any other schools...I wonder if Milan told TJ he wanted to come back to ISU, so TJ got Albaugh and Hy Vee on the horn to scrounge together some more dollars for Mommy. TJ knew of the four incoming freshman Kiss was a little more of a project, so he hit up his connections from UNLV asking them for a solid and to take care of Kiss, so he told Kiss "here's a better opportunity for you," opening the door for Mommy's return."

FWIW, this was the nitro cold brew coming through, and I 100% don't think Milan returns to ISU but man it would be electric if he did.
I like how this take kinda' has an end-of-Scooby-Doo-episode-denoument feel... "It's so crazy, it just might work!"

Unless this is part of a plan that Iowa State agreed to and for which something else will happen because there's room, this shouldn't be allowed. He signed a document. These kids have too many rights.

Since it's obvious some don't like this idea help me understand. I'll say it another way. This kid could have been let out of his agreement for any number of reasons that would be fine and reasonable.

But if after he's signed he then goes to another school only because he got more money then I'd say that's wrong. If you think that's OK then why can't an NFL player sign with a team and then a month later sign with another for more money. I'll admit to being old fashioned here but why should a kid have that sort of right? Genuinely trying to understand. Thanks.
