It's a miracle!

When we were kids we pretty much ate whatever was thrown in front of us. Of course mom was a good cook and everything we had was homemade.
Except for liver, we begrudgingly ate that. I have never had beef liver since I left home and I don't miss it.

I know, I just think its funny when people without kids jump in with their wisdom. I remember what it was like when I didn't have kids and knew everything about parenting too.

Of course almost every parent makes their kids eat what they make. It just sucks to have to threaten your kids with starvation and deal with sh!tty attitudes at the dinner table. I have four kids between the ages of 6 to 9, and trying to introduce a new meal into the rotation sucks b@lls!

Not gonna lie, that sounds terrible. There is so much negative peer pressure at that age.

Would they respond better if you made it a game? I used to do this trick when I would take care of my nieces and nephews. Have a "mystery bowl" covered in foil on the table. Inside could be peas, beets, strawberries (mix it up with something they want and something they don't. And then, "Last kid to finish their plate has to eat what's in the mystery bowl"

May god have mercy on your soul. My oldest is 8 and I can’t imagine there being 3 more his age. We’ve got him, a 1.5 year old and another one on the way. The one and a half year old will try stuff and just spit it right back out. His veggies have to be from a pouch or he absolutely will not touch them.

My kids always have and still like almost anything. HS age daughter isn’t too fond of red meat, and JH son isn’t too fond of a few vegetables, but they are pretty easy to feed. Not sure we did anything out of the ordinary, just pretty much said this is what we are eating. Now they cook for themselves a fair amount.

But one nephew is 8. When we have family get togethers the parents bring his food, and it's always the same. Some sort of prepackaged biscuit type thing, that gross yogurt in a little pouch, a specific chocolate milk and powdered donuts. He'll eat a cookie, candy, or ice cream, but I don't think I've seen him eat anything else. Maybe some toast with Nutella every once in a while. And usually he doesn't really eat much of what they bring anyway. I just almost never see the kid eat, period. He's smaller than average, but seems to have plenty of energy, does fine playing sports and all that. What's strange is they have a 4 year old that will eat damn near everything. Another set of in-laws basically give their kids Chicken nuggets or hot dogs about every night. Two strange things are the parents are pretty healthy people, both were college athletes. The second strange thing is we've watched the kids, and they were great to feed - they were willing to eat about anything we asked them to try.

It's easy for me to say because we didn't have to make some major effort to get our kids to eat well, but the parents in my cases are pretty much path of least resistance types when it comes to raising kids in general.

I used to have a great game to get my kids to eat lots of vegetables when they were little (maybe 3-6). Once they ate them all they got to punch me in the arm and I'd pretend like they had some incredible power building from the vegetables. Worked like a charm every time.

As you can imagine when my wife caught wind of that she banned it.

I worked for a non profit for 7 years that served an evening meal that served approximately 1500 kids over that time. I guess I haven't technically parented though. However the expectation for all 200 at a time was you ate what was served or you didn't eat and it worked fine. Elementary age kids will follow expectations if they are consistent and you enforce them uniformly.

Biology experts...

Don't even carnivorous predator animals occasionally feel compelled to eat some grass or leaves?

You know when I was a kid I got understandably branded as "kid who hates veggies" but really I just hate canned veggies. I like all raw vegetables, all steamed or all roasted. Boiled is meh but I'll eat it. Still as an adult I hate canned veggies. I haven't boiled any veggies since I found it's 10x faster to steam something than boil something, would have been a nice realization 20 years ago.

If you ever have your own kids, you will be amazed at how much better your kids will behave for other adults than they do for you, and it has nothing to do with how consistently you discipline them.

What very white very affluent school do your kids go to? Lol if you think this is true.

That has zero to do with it. I'm not talking about school, I'm talking about how my children behave for other adults in all sorts of situations. I have confirmed this with other parents I know as well. As you have admitted, you would know nothing about this, but glad you could try to shoehorn white privilege into the conversation.

Ok.

I don't like bananas. Dried or in banana bread is fine. The texture, taste, and smell, make me want to hurl. But I've probably had like 3-4 in the last couple of months. I have taken it slow, but am slowly overcoming my distain taste of them.

Kinda like overcoming a peanut allergy. Small little bits at a time and over time..... they can be tolerated.

Maybe this is why I refuse to eat Kraft Mac n Cheese. Seems we were force fed that every other day. One day with hot dogs cut up in it, the next plain. That orange cheese powder packet from hell!!

You should take a video of you eating a banana and we can rate your technique...

And the cheese powder is what makes Kraft the best!
