***ISU WNBA Thread***

After scoring 11 points in an 81-76 win over the Los Angeles Sparks on June 14, Cheryl Reeve talked about Lynx forward Bridget Carleton’s impact in the 37 minutes she played.

“She’s just very trustworthy,” said Reeve. “It’s trustworthiness and dependability. … Every player will tell you that you can just depend upon BC.”

Trustworthy is the perfect word for the former Iowa State Cyclone, now in her sixth WNBA season. Her defense and three-point shot-making have elevated Carlton to become a starting forward with the Lynx and a valuable piece on a contending team. However, her starting spot and success this season were never guaranteed.

It’s too bad BC had to have her breakout year in the shadow of she who will not be named’s rookie season.
I respectfully disagree. There's never been more eyes/hype on the league, which increases her exposure. The Lynx alone are averaging 2,000 more fans per game than they did in 2023 - that's 4,000 more eyeballs watching BC ball-out per game.

They aren't competing for the same season awards (BC seems a shoe-in for MIP and CC likely is ROTY) and local Iowa media was never going to follow/hype BC's post grad career regardless.

That was a tough game, lead most of the game till late in 4 when it seemed nothing would go in for the Links. Then the last minute+ it worked and our gal made the shot to win 34 min 13 pts 3 rb 1 asst and 1 to.

Maybe not, but I get the feeling CC-hype set the competitive fires in Bridge roaring. What a great player and person.

Lynx, just win it all, and that way Bridge can get some recognition.

There are other legitimate possibilities for MIP, but here's one well-thought-out article on postseason awards that has Bridget not only as MIP but also 2nd-team all-defense.

Jamie Steyer Johnson does a podcast the podcast network for Her Hoops Stats and there is a good discussion on the case for Bridget for most improved. A good podcast for the discussion of women's hoops. It is WNBA now but will transition to college later this year. With Jamie involved betting there will be a fair amount of ISU discussion.
