ISU unranked in AP poll

We're always going to be underdogs in the CFP and the rankings. Few of the voters actually see us play so they're just looking at who won and who lost this week with maybe a cursory look at the stat sheet.
John Walters just posted this on Twitter. If they aren't watching us, it's because they've chosen not to. All the more reason to strip them of their voting.

Well said. It’s also cheaper for ESPN to prop up a G5 Darling from a conference who only makes a fraction of XII money. They get fan appeal for a Cinderella story and a bargain in the media payouts for the conference inventory.

Is it a coincidence that SMU, who takes $0 of ACC money, got in the playoff last year even with head to head loss to BYU who was on the bubble?

Sure we all made nice publicly, but only a few years ago ESPN tried to kill the XII.

With Clemson down this year, we will see if ISU, TT, and TCU are afforded the same benefit as Miami, GT, and FSU when it comes time to seed the CFP.
Everyone in the B12 needs to know that ESPN is the enemy.

They are the SEC'e state run media outlet.

They actively tried to kill the B12.

Never forget.

My freshman year late 90s I would listen to road games while doing homework because totally normal for a Big 12 game to have no TV at all. It was like the last choice wasn't on TV and before we turned it around that was often us.

By my count since 2016 inclusive (Campbell's first year, incidentally) we are 14-24 against teams ranked in the AP Top 25 on gameday and 4-6 against teams ranked in the AP Top 10 on gameday.
I just heard this morning that Franklin is 4-21 against the top ten at Penn State for a comparison.

Few of the voters actually see us play so they're just looking at who won and who lost this week with maybe a cursory look at the stat sheet. There are reasons for ranking the P2 ahead of us: historical success, more highly rated recruiting/transfer classes, bigger athletic budgets, etc. The only way to change the narrative is to win games out of conference. Non-playoff bowl games used to be an opportunity, but they have lost credibility since so many players opt out.

You mean like 3 out of the last 4 against Iowa and Miami in the Pop Tarts Bowl?

I remember early 2000s having to follow scores online if I couldn’t listen to the game. Whenever there was a long gap between updates it was usually a bad sign. Like “catch by ISU receiver, fumble, recovered by defense, returned for a touchdown “

oh yeah definitely PTSD memory on those

When I moved out of state in 2003 I actually paid $5 a month for a few years to get the radio broadcasts online, it was through Yahoo for just a handful of years and I think that might've been how Cuban got rich selling those broadcast rights.

Fun fact and maybe someone has already made the point in the past 28 pages of rage. If so I apologize. ISU has more points (830) now than they have had all year in the poll. They had 820 when ranked 12th two weeks ago. They gained 51 points from last week which was about 1 point per voter (66 voters). In looking at the results from Saturday it was pretty easy to see we wouldn't be moving up.

If it was my poll I might have had us at 14-16 the entire season and only thought about moving them up from such a convincing win over AZ. I think it was super dumb KSU was ever ranked in front of ISU to begin with. ASU and maybe Tech are the only teams that ever had some kind of rational reason to be ranked higher than ISU going into the year. ASU on last year and bringing back QB, Tech on the limitless infusion of money/talent.

What is the reason for KSU to have ever been above ISU or for that matter above Tech, BYU, TCU, ASU, Utah and Baylor? It can't be the QB because ISU's QB is/was clearly better.

It's a start, but critics could argue Iowa has been down the last few years and, as I said, the non-playoff bowls have lost their luster with so much emphasis on the playoff. More players are opting out decreasing the bowls' credibility as yardsticks of the strength of conferences. As I said, P2 schools have automatic credibility for the reasons I listed. In today's world, it will likely take a playoff win or a win against a Top 5 non-conference opponent to change the narrative.

If I went home for the weekend I would listen to a Missouri AM station because no southeastern Iowa stations carried them.

There was one year I was back in Sioux City for weekend from college and none of the Iowa cable companies carried our Big 12 game so I drove across the river over to South Sioux to watch the game at a hotel bar in Nebraska. Younger fans will never understand how atrocious our TV situation was...this was like 2001, not the 60s or something.

Some hok idiot must have voted up Koki Riley on the College Poll Tracker. Vote this guy down where he belongs as he has us at #24. Lowest of any voter.

Yeah, it's tough. On one hand, I don't want to give ESPN more page views for its leadership's part in building up the SEC / BIG (but particularly the SEC). On the other hand, I have to believe the powers that be at ESPN still like a good story and respond to clicks / views. Thus, more people clicking on ISU stories, theoretically, then the more they will focus on us.

I will say I like to give Heartland College Sports clicks. I've just discovered them and they cover Big 12 and are doing a good job pumping out content: https://www.heartlandcollegesports.com/.

Also, this reporter just finally moved ISU into his "Power Rankings" this week at 24: https://www.cbssports.com/college-f...o-top-five-lsu-plummets-amid-massive-shakeup/

Just crazy ISU gets that little respect. The columnist puts us behind 4-1 Tennessee, 4-1 Michigan, 2-2 Notre Dame, 4-1 Arizona State..... sigh. Ridiculous.
